My name is Jim Mowrer, and I’m running against Representative Steve King. Yup, the extreme Steve King who today made some of the most horrible and offensive comments about immigrants that I’ve ever heard.
Before we go into what he said, I wanted to make sure you know something about me. I have a proven record of results, serving Iowa and this nation. I am a life-long resident of Iowa's 4th district and grew up farming. After the September 11th attacks, I wanted to give back to my country and joined the Iowa National Guard. I was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for 23 months (16 in Iraq) and then opted to return to Iraq after my tour as a civilian analyst in 2009. Then I went to the Pentagon and worked to make it more efficient- saving tax payers billions of dollars.
Now here is what King said: that the majority of young immigrants are drug smugglers. This is right after he claimed that comparing immigrants to dogs was a “compliment." Jed did a great post that has more details - you can read more by clicking here.
That is just plain offensive, and has no place coming from a member of the U.S. House. So far King has refused to apologize for his outrageous comments, instead declining to comment when one of his colleagues called him out for his destructive words.
I promise that I will come back soon and talk about my plans to move Iowa forward but right now it’s urgent that you join me and call on King to apologize. Can you call on him to apologize by clicking here?
Immigrants built this country, and Steve King’s words comparing immigrants to dogs and drug smugglers are dangerous and wrong. The 4th District in Iowa needs someone who goes to Congress and represents their values, and doesn’t spend all their time in Washington on Fox News or shouting from the Capitol steps. This doesn’t accomplish anything and makes all of us Iowans look bad.
I hope that I can count on you to stay tuned and stay engaged with my race. More soon…
Thanks,
Jim
