I break into your house and change the locks.
You say, "Let me in."
I say, "What's in it for me?"
You say, "What?? Let me in."
I say, "Why won't you negotiate in good faith?"
You say, "I'll call the cops."
I say, "I'll tell you what, I'll let you in all rooms but the master bedroom."
You say, "Go fuck yourself."
I say, "Don't you want your kids to be able to go to sleep? Hey everybody, this guy doesn't care about his kids!"
You call the cops.
I say, "Give me a hundred bucks and I'll go."
You say, "You're insane." Sirens in the distance.
I say, "50 bucks?"
You say, "Nah."
Sirens get louder. I run away.
You go inside.
I call you on the phone and say, "Hey you didn't say thank you."

This arose out of an email exchange with a conservative friend. I forwarded to him a tweet from StrikeDebt: "Govt #shutdown cost $24B http://t.co/... Tuition-free public higher ed would only cost $12.4B http://t.co/... #Priorities"
My conservative friend responded,"Then the senate should have passed the 400 bill passed by the House during the slowdown which would have funded all programs but obamacare."
That comment inspired the above little fable. When I sent it to my friend, he wrote back, "Do you have a point?"
I answered, "I was making a point to my base."
