1:02 PM PT: Units 4 and 5 of the Four Corners Power Plant in New Mexico have a unique place in the history of air pollution control in the United States.
Units 4 and 5 were originally constructed in the early 1970s without providing adequate particulate emission controls. The resulting visible emission plumes from these units were so dark and large they were plainly visible in satellite imagery at the time.
Units 4 and 5 were subsequently fitted with significantly revised air pollution control equipment which addressed the worst parts of the the visible emissions from the Four Corners Power Plant.
