It's the biggest primary night of the year with eight states going to the polls. Our
guide to tonight's races can be found here. We'll be bringing you the results as they come in.
Results: Alabama | California | Iowa | Mississippi
Montana | New Jersey | New Mexico | South Dakota
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 10:50 PM PT (Taniel): CA-07: The AP has called both runoff spots for Rep. Ami Bera, the Democratic incumbent, and former Rep. Doug Ose, a Republican. Ose was the establishment pick; the more conservative Igor Birman, who finished a distant third, could have been an easier opponent for Bera. Bera, who is currently at 49 percent of the vote, is having a strong night as well.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:02 PM PT (Taniel): CA-31: There have been no new numbers in this open seat for the past hour, but the AP has just called the first runoff spot for Republican Paul Chabot. We now wait to see whether a Democrat will snatch the second spot, or whether we will see a repeat of 2012's all-GOP general election in this blue-leaning district. At the moment, Pete Aguilar (D) is at 17.1%, Eloise Gomez Reyes (D) is at 16.5% and Lesli Gooch (R) is at 15.9%.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:07 PM PT (Taniel): CA-44: The AP has issued its check-marks. Democratic Rep. Mark Takano will face Riverside City Councilor Steve Adams, a Republican. With 45 percent of precincts reporting, Takano is first at 44, followed by Adams at 37. A second Democrat is at 11%, and a second Republican is at 8%.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:12 PM PT (Taniel): CA-17: No surprise here, with the AP calling the second runoff spot in this Democratic district for Ro Khanna. He will face longtime Democratic incumbent Mike Honda. At the moment, Honda stands at 51 percent of the vote, while Khanna is at 26.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:15 PM PT (Taniel): CA-36: Democratic incumbent Raul Ruiz's opponent in November will be Assemblyman Brian Nestande. With half of the vote in, Ruiz is at 50 percent, Nestande at 34. A second Republican got 16.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:21 PM PT (Taniel): CA-21: A big call here, as Amanda Renteria (D) beats the Democrats' 2012 nominee Democrat John Hernandez for the second runoff spot. She'll now face freshman Republican incumbent David Valadeo, who is currently sitting on 61 percent of the vote in a district that voted for Obama 55/44.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:29 PM PT (Taniel): California: Former Labor Secretary Hilda Solis is looking strong in a Los Angeles Supervisor race. With nearly 30,000 ballots counted, she has 67 percent, with her two opponents far behind at 19 percent and 14 percent.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:31 PM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: One of the real bits of drama tonight has been whether the "top two" primary would create an all-GOP general election for the state controller's office. If the votes were all-in right now, the answer would be "yes." But both prominent Dems (Betty Yee and John Perez) have been catching Republican David Evans for most of the night, and Yee has now crept within 6800 votes of making the general election. Stay tuned.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:39 PM PT (David Jarman): MS-Sen: One last update on Mississippi, though there will be more fallout in the days to come. For now, the AP hasn't awarded any checkmarks. Chris McDaniel is at 49.57, and Thad Cochran is at 48.88, with a 2,128 vote disparity between them out of more than 300,000 total. Most of exurban Rankin Co. finally trickled in, and now there are only 9 of 1,832 precincts that haven't reported: 4 in Hinds Co. (Jackson), 2 in Jefferson Co. (rural and mostly African-American), and 3 in Rankin. For McDaniel to hit 50+1, he'd not only have to dominate those precincts but they'd also have to be disproportionately large ... but instead, given their demographics, they seem likelier to be favorable to Cochran. So it's safe to expect that this one is going to a runoff.
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:44 PM PT (Steve Singiser): CA-25/CA-33: It has been a while since we've updated these races, for two primary reasons: (a) little has changed, and (b) the vote counting in Los Angeles has been at a snail's pace. A slow snail.
At any rate, the Democrats are still regrettably shut out of the open-seat 25th, as Tony Strickland (29 percent) and Steve Knight (27 percent) still hold down the top two slots. Democratic podiatrist Lee Rogers lags a little over 1000 votes back. Meanwhile, in the other big L.A.-area open seat, it is Republican Elan Carr (23 percent) and Democratic state Sen. Ted Lieu (20 percent) pacing the field, though Democrat Wendy Greuel is not far behind (18 percent).
Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:50 PM PT (Steve Singiser): CA-Gov: Well, it is now pretty evident what the gubernatorial matchup will look like:
Donnelly just called Kashkari to offer congratulations, according to @aaronmclear

Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:52 PM PT (Steve Singiser): MS-Sen: Cochran supporters are claiming a late surge ... granted, an irrelevant surge, since the runoff if still inevitable.
New Rankin and Hinds County numbers just came in and Sen. Cochran now has the lead. 69 votes.

Tue Jun 03, 2014 at 11:56 PM PT (Steve Singiser): California: Veteran DKE elections junkies already know this, but for the rest of y'all, there is one thing to bear in mind, California takes days to count all of its votes, what with extensive absentee balloting and a fairly high number of provisionals. So, the numbers you see tonight, even if it says all precincts are reporting, may not be so ironclad in these races where margins are in the hundreds of votes.
12:06 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA-31: San Bernardino County...yer killing us. The good news: they've now updated to about 57 percent reporting, and the Democrats still have a slot in the top 2. Paul Chabot is long gone with 27 percent of the vote, but Redlands Mayor Pete Aguilar is second at 17 percent. The bad news: Aguilar leads former GOP staffer Lesli Gooch by...412 votes. The worse news: no updates for another two hours. Groan.
12:19 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: Ouch. As we head towards 68 percent of precincts reporting, the GOP's grip on the top two has actually solidified, even as their overall vote totals have shrunk a bit. The reason? There is virtually no daylight between leading Democrats Betty Yee and John Perez. Thus, even though Democrats have a 48-46 lead statewide, the GOP has both spots in the general. What's more: David Evans has the largest lead over Yee (14,100 votes) that we've seen in a long while.
12:22 AM PT (Steve Singiser): MT-AL: A bit of non-California news: the AP calls the GOP primary for the open House seat in Montana for Ryan Zinke, who has won with a modest 33 percent of the vote in a multi-candidate field. This sets up a November showdown with Democrat John Lewis, who won earlier tonight.
12:37 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: This race is just getting absurd. Second through fourth place are now separated by about 16,000 votes, with over 2.6 million cast. Republican David Evans is about 8500 votes ahead of Democrat Betty Yee. And Yee is only about 7300 votes ahead of Democrat John Perez. Coin. Flip.
12:45 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: For what it is worth, the Alameda County registrar has the total vote count in, while the SoS is still reporting about 70 percent in. Yee and Perez will both pick up some ground on Evans, but not enough to move into second (about 2500-3500 votes).
12:50 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA-31: Welp, the DCCC can finally exhale. With 100 percent reporting, Redlands Mayor (and DCCC favorite) Pete Aguilar has made it into the top two, thus earning a spot in November's general election. He finished the night (though absentees and provisionals will alter this) up 390 votes on Republican Lesli Gooch. However, Democrats combined for 54.5 percent of the light turnout, and are the betting favorites here in November.
1:00 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: It is becoming evident that, even at 100 percent reporting, it will be hard to call this race resolved. Right now, with 82 percent reporting according to the Sec. of State's office, there are a total of 10,985 votes separating 2nd place from 4th place. For the record, that is out of over 2.7 million cast.
1:07 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: Holy crap. As of right now: David Evans (R) is at 611,380. Betty Yee (D) is at 604,959. John Perez (D) is at 604,225. In other words, 7155 votes separates 2nd from 4th. This is with 88 percent of precincts in.
1:12 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA-25: Though it is not locked in just yet, the biggest heartache of the night for the Democrats probably has to be getting shut out of this open seat, created by Buck McKeon's retirement. Democrat Lee Rogers, who got a respectable 45 percent of the vote against McKeon in 2012, is a fairly distant 1831 votes behind runner-up Republican Steve Knight in the balloting thus far, with 81 percent reporting. There are still VBMs and provisionals, but it is getting harder to see where Rogers gets daylight.
1:20 AM PT (Steve Singiser): CA Controller: Here's the final update on the night morning: Perez has now passed Yee for second place, but both have now dropped further back of the Republican (Evans). The current margin is 9400 votes. However, of the 10 percent of statewide precincts still to report, the bulk of them are in Mendocino and Sonoma, two very blue counties. This is very much a "wait and see" proposition.
And with that, over eight hours after we began, DKE's coverage of Super Tuesday draws to a close ... on Wednesday. Be sure to check back tomorrow (err....later today) for all the updates. For those who made it to the very end, well done!
And, probably, you should go to bed.
Good night!
