6:12 PM PT: For those just joining us, we won't beat around the bush: House Majority Leader Eric Cantor just lost his primary in perhaps the most shocking upset in a very long time. With 99 percent reporting, little known challenger Dave Brat has defeated Cantor 56-44.
Democrats do have a contender, but at 57 percent Romney, VA-07 is a very tough seat. Cantor cannot run as an independent. He may run as a write-in, though that looks unlikely.
6:13 PM PT: In the safely blue Northern Virginia 8th District, former Lt. Gov. Don Beyer has easily won as expected. In South Carolina, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham leads with 59 percent, with 53 percent reporting.
6:16 PM PT: ME-02: In this competitive but Democratic-leaning open seat, we have two decisive results. On the Democratic side, state Sen. Emily Cain leads Senate President Troy Jackson 73-27, with 19 percent in. On the GOP side, former Treasurer Bruce Poliquin leads GOP establishment pick Kevin Raye 62-38. Poliquin is much more conservative and would have a harder time flipping the seat.
6:18 PM PT: SC-Sen-A: The AP has called this for Lindsay Graham. Will be heavily favored against Democratic state Sen. Brad Hutto.
6:22 PM PT: ME-02: 23 percent in and the Democratic race still looks like a blowout for Emily Cain. On the GOP side, Poliquin's margin has slipped slightly to 59-41.
6:26 PM PT: VA-07: Here is a look at House, Senate, and gubernatorial incumbents who lost their primaries from 1994 to 2012. Hard to find an example quite like this.
6:28 PM PT: A while back, we put together a list of House members from either party who could lose their primary. Cantor wasn't on it. Who could be the next big shocker?
6:34 PM PT: VA-07: Amusingly, a PAC called "Government is Not God" went to bat for Cantor. Turns out the $750.00 they spent was far from an act of divine intervention.
6:37 PM PT: ME-02: The Democratic primary has been called for Cain. The GOP race is uncalled, but Poliquin is on track to win.
6:42 PM PT: ME-02: Poliquin's lead is down to a still robust 56-44.
6:45 PM PT: VA-07: One jaw dropping statistic: In the seven weeks leading up to the primary, Cantor outspent Brat $993,000 to $76,000 and aired anti-Brat ads as early as April. No outside groups came to Brat's aide in any meaningful way. Cantor took this seriously but still lost.
6:49 PM PT (David Nir): The liveblog continues here.
