I am beginning what I hope will be a new series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. I chose the first rescue, Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, because I receive daily Facebook entries about the wonderful work they are doing going to kill shelters and rescuing, cleaning up and finding foster care and furever homes for the animals they find. They are an amazing organization and worthy of Kossack attention and care.

Below are just some of the animals this amazing group has helped.
Where to begin this tragedy: We had a very kind call indeed from someone who had found Houser. They had been feeding him for a week at there shop. On the 8th day he returned to the only safety he knew with his leg badly hurt. He was in terrible pain. We got the shelter permission to help him. Sadly he will lose his leg. We are trying acupuncture this week first. Houser is a gorgeous Golden Retriever mix. He is named for the kind animal control officer who went out to help him.
This boy has the most beautiful heart!! He kisses his foster and crawls on her lap. She tells him it will be ok and that he will be loved just as much as a one legged doggie. He will need physical therapy as well. We ask that you donate to his surgery and his care. We are praying that a miracle happens and that with physical therapy he could keep his leg, however he is in pain and the doctors tell us his leg must go. Houser really thanks you for your help. If you can't donate please pray and share. This is one very very perfect soul!! Thank you.
Hi Angels! My name is Raffles and I'm a young male Shih Tzu. I'm stuck at this place where there are lots of cages and oh so many cats & dogs. A lot of them are barking & crying and the noise is scaring me. I don't like it here AT ALL. Of all the places that I've been in my young life, this is the worst. Don't get me wrong, the lady who works here is nice to us but what dog wants to be stuck in a cage?? There's no grass under my feet, only cement. There's no big soft bed where I can take a nap. There's no person to comfort me when I'm scared. And I'm scared a lot.
I've looked around but I don't see very many empty cages. Do you know what that means? It means they have to "make room" for new dogs that come in. There are two ways to do that. The first one is really, really bad. They take you in that room and you don't come out. No matter how pretty you are, or young, or healthy, or sweet, if you go in that room, your time is up.
The second one is really, really good. That's when a rescue comes and takes you out of the cage. They talk to you softly and promise you that you are safe. They put you in their car for your Freedom Ride and take you to a vet where they make sure you are healthy, give you all the vaccinations you need, and fix you so you can't make babies anymore. Then you get to go to a foster home. A foster home is a wonderful place where you wait for your forever family.
Please oh please help me with the 2nd choice! I have a foster but I need donations to help with my vetting expenses. Could you do that? Just a little would help. Go to www.angelsrescue.org/donate and put "Raffles" in the purpose line. Then the nice volunteers will know it's for me.
And there are a lot of other dogs here who might could be rescued too if they had fosters. If you live in the Atlanta area, please fill out an application at www.angelsrescue.org/foster or e-mail foster@angelsrescue.org for more information. I'd like to help some of my friends too so please think about it, OK?
And please "share", "like" and comment on my post. That makes a HUGE difference and only takes a little time. Thanks for your help! You are all truly Angels. Love, Raffles (Atlanta, GA)
Please donate, foster, volunteer, like and follow and help spread the love and kindness these good people are spreading to the animals they help!
