The WABAC (Wayback) Machine is a cartoon time machine featured in the Rocky and Bulliwinkle Show's reoccurring segment "Peabody's Improbable History". Mr. Peabody and Sherman brought 1960s children unlikely historical events as they "should-have-been".
I would not be surprised if a cartoon influenced the GOP's platform of non-ideas. It certainly seems fitting. But just as Mr. Peabody took children back in time, the GOP Wayback Machine has been busy humming away over the past several years, taking this country on hostage voyages to an idyllic past that never existed. Truly, they want to rewrite history as it "should have been".
In the GOP version of history, African-Americans would not have citizenship or equal protection under the law, which is little surprise considering how a number of conservatives and conservative news outlets view the Michael Brown shooting. Or, women would not have the right to vote. There is no question that they would rid this country of the tyranny of the Social Security and Medicare they enjoy so much. And, who can forget returning to the idyllic time when we exchanged chickens for our health care?
But, conservative desires seem to want to return to a time when abortion was illegal, women should stay home, or women should make less money than their male counterparts.
While on this journey back in time, conservatives have called women "sluts" for using birth control, created legislation that called for vaginal ultrasounds before an abortion was performed, and have indicated that they believe that there is such a thing as "legitimate rape", implying any other sexual assault is welcomed--if not initiated--by the woman.
The GOP (Gubmint Occupied Pelvis) literally wants government small--so small that it fits into a woman's vagina. Yet, they continue to try to reach out to binders full of women. However, they can never quite seem to get the majority of women on board with the conservative platform as they continue to insult women. It is little wonder that women believe that the GOP is "stuck in the past", as a Politico article indicates.
A detailed report commissioned by two major Republican groups — including one backed by Karl Rove — paints a dismal picture for Republicans, concluding female voters view the party as “intolerant,” “lacking in compassion” and “stuck in the past.”
This poll by Crossroads GPS found that women are “barely receptive” to Republicans’ policies. As republicans continue to insult women, it really does seem that they will be stuck in the past.
