So the Republican party is giving up on repealing Obamacare? Don't pat yourselves on the back too soon. In Arizona, the pinhead Legislature has put Proposition 122 on the November ballot, which would "restrict the state and all local governments from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with a federal action or program that is not consistent with the Constitution of the United States".
Guess what the main target is? Yep. The Mexican Spotted Owl will also get it in the cajones, though.
More below the squiggle.
Just like most Republican bills designed to undermine anything the GOP doesn't like, this one has a noble-sounding name ("Rejection Of Unconstitutional Federal Actions"). It has the official support of half a dozen Republicans, including sherriff Joe Arpaio. (Any Democrats? Of course not! Arizona doesn't need no stinkin' Democrats!) (Actually, there are more independents in Arizona than Democrats.)
Similar attempts at this sort of subversion tried to make their way through Missouri and Ohio, but those never got past their state Legislatures.
The short title for Proposition 122 reads as:
Rejection Of Unconstitutional Federal Actions:
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF ARIZONA; AMENDING ARTICLE II, SECTION 3, CONSTITUTION OF ARIZONA; RELATING TO THE REJECTION OF UNCONSTITUTIONAL FEDERAL ACTIONS.
The full ballot summary reads as follows:
PERMITS THE STATE TO EXERCISE ITS SOVEREIGN AUTHORITY BY RESTRICTING STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT PERSONNEL AND FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO PURPOSES THAT ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES.
A "yes" vote shall have the effect of allowing the state to restrict the state and all local governments from using any personnel or financial resources to enforce, administer or cooperate with a federal action or program that is not consistent with the Constitution of the United States. The state's authority is exercised if the state passes an initiative, referendum, bill, or pursues any other available legal remedy.
A "no" vote shall have the effect of retaining the current law relating to state and local governments and the Constitution of the United States.
1:14 PM PT: One last bit of information: This travesty is called "Arizona State Sovereignty". The GOP could not have chosen a better acronym.
