In what is surely one of the stupidest ideas since the San Francisco 49ers moved to Santa Clara, a bunch of Very Important People are considering levying a toll on bicycles and pedestrians who wish to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
September 5th, 2014.
On Friday, as the SF Chronicle reports, the directors of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District will consider
charging a toll for bicyclists and pedestrians to cross the landmark bridge...
"Really? I think that's stupid," said Joanna Del Mundo, 26, a nurse from Fremont who was wearing a Giants jersey and walking on the bridge Tuesday. "I mean, it's a public bridge, a public sidewalk. I think it would hurt some people's access to the bridge."
...
People who are doing the right thing and bicycling or walking instead of polluting the air by driving shouldn't be penalized,' said Veasna Moth, 26, an emergency medical technician who lives in Hayward.
So two out of two medical personnel agree. And me. So it's unanimous (not that I'm a medical personnel).
"Really? I think that's stupid."
Hell, the only people who disagree are probably Republicans, and San Francisco's
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence removed the last registered Republican from the City a couple years ago (peacefully, peacefully!), if memory serves.
In any case dollar bills don't grow on deer (although they might eat them), so the directors better come up with a different plan, otherwise there won't be any more deer commuting between Marin and the Presidio. And the only thing in the headlights might be the directors' jobs.
"Really? I think that's stupid."
Hmmm, at $3.00 a head, throw in a $1 surcharge for each balloon...
