Looks like Republicans have taken the exhortation to "win ugly" to heart and are willing to tunnel under the limbo bar of decency if need be.
We already have the existing laundry list of voter suppression tactics as well as Mitch McConnell's disgusting "Election Fraud" mailer. Today we can add to the list, courtesy of Think Progress,
GOP to Iowans: Your Neighbors Will Know If You Don't Vote Republican
The GOP is trying to convince Iowa voters on Facebook that their neighbors will know if they voted Republican.
This doesn't require any long diary expressing outrage. This ad is based on The Republican National Committee itself scaring people that they face the potential of social disapproval and shunning or worse if they don't vote the way their neighbors do. It is intimidating and it is disgusting and of course it is also ignorant since no one knows how anyone votes in the sanctity of the polling station.
Inadvertently, the Republicans may have made Alison Lundergan Grimes a modern election heroine for standing up to a Kentucky Editorial Board. I would like to say here and now that Alison Lundergan Grimes was 100% correct in her response and this Republican ad proves it. Those of us who castigated ALG for not disclosing her vote (including myself) were wrong, wrong, completely wrong.
Those of us who did criticize her bought into what is now becoming a right-wing intimidation frame that people's votes either are known or should be known.
6:49 AM PT: Sorry folks, had to update the title 3 times before I got it right. It wasn't simply Iowa Republicans, the source of this disgusting ad was the actual RNC itself.
