Your stinking thoughts and prayers meme every time someone or multiple someones are shot in random acts of gun violence aren’t working. Neither are the platitudes about good guys with guns, “it’s too soon” to talk about preventative measures, Constitutional Rights, and the new canard, “mental illness”.
It can’t be “too soon” because death at the end of a gun is coming daily. Corpses are barely cold by the time some new breaking news comes out about yet another act of gun violence.
Enough!
But First, A Word From Our Sponsor:

Yes, I know all those old chestnuts are just a way of saying something in response to needless death and destruction without really saying something or (gasp!) doing something. Pretending to care has become commonplace among politicians and pundits. Actual caring is left for their more important matters, like strategizing on how to give even more tax breaks to the massively rich donors that toss megabucks into campaign engines.
It’s. Not. Working.
The platitudes are ringing hollow as the sound of gun fire grows louder and closer. The endless, expanding list of victims can no longer be read on abbreviated news casts. There are simply too many. And, before the horror of the last violent event even begins to ebb, a fresh new one emerges like a zombie climbing out of a grave. The horror doesn’t end. It just gets worse.
The vast majority of Americans support measures that will help to keep firearms out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have access to them. Even a majority of NRA members support them. Yet our Congress, bought and paid for by the NRA (or afraid of them), won’t even pass legislation keeping guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists!
What. The. Fuck.
It’s time to start dissing those phony platitudes from politicians that serve the interests of gunz and more gunz as the New York Daily News just did on their front page. It needs to be done every single day until politicians realize that the public is fed up and ready to vote them out in the next election unless there is some positive action to diminish the reign of terror we currently live in.
I’m not afraid of terrorists. I realize I have a better chance of getting struck by lightening than being a victim of a terrorist. I do, however, live with concerns about the nutbag with a gun that he/she can readily buy whether they are responsible, know how to use and store it safely, and plan to use it properly. And in Wisconsin, you can concealed carry, too, which is an added concern in places where Republicans are so easily aroused to intense anger over every little stinking thing they hear on Fox Newz.
Less words. More action.

From TrixieB:
Lysis really nails it with this comment in TobyRocksSoHard's excellent post on polling. Concise, strong, and motivating. We need to fight. Yes Lysis, 100% yes.
Polling today is great.
But all I can say is after today’s events in California, there is only one person running for president that I can even take seriously at this point, and she was clearly right to put so much emphasis on guns, Planned Parenthood, and mental health.
She is also the only one to put any emphasis on better meeting the needs of the disabled. She is seeing America as it is, but more importantly, how it could be, if we have the will to fight for it.

This comment by Thumb from "Hillary Clinton's Ghosts: A Legacy of Pushing the Democratic Party to the Right" by bobswern.
It used to be pretty easy to reconcile those distinctions. In fact, the very notion of “Crashing the Gate” brought me to this fine anti-establishment establishment.
If you liked Crashing the Gates you’re love his sequel:

I’m shocked the debate moderators would try to shut off debate about such an important topic, shocked I tell you!
… And now for a word from our sponsor, Exxon Mobil.
From your ranting host:
The absolutely perfect comment for tonight’s topic by Trix. From Cheers and Jeers: Rum and Coke FRIDAY! by Bill in Portland Maine.
Every gun owner should keep an extra gun with them at all times to protect their gun collection from another gun owner and his or her guns.
They should also carry another gun to protect that extra gun.
And so on in perpetuity.
It’s guns all the way down.
My apologies if the links don’t work. There is no way to test them in this wonky new “environment” since we don’t have the option to preview a diary, story, or whatever they’re calling it these days. It wouldn’t help anyway since many of us are still being dumped in some random place in the middle of the comments when using a comment link.
