So...here is where we stand, roughly three-and-a-half hours after the start of this final primary night of 2016 (not counting Louisiana, whose primary is on Election Night, technically):
NH-Gov: On the Democratic side, the race proved a bit anticlimactic as executive councilor Colin Van Ostern cruised to an easy win. On the Republican side, we are finally starting to see a touch of daylight. With two-thirds of the vote in, executive councilor Chris Sununu has opened up a modest lead (just over 1000 votes) over wealthy state legislator Frank Edelblut.
NH-Sen: Absolutely no surprise here, but incumbent GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte annihilated challenger Jim Rubens (79-18). This sets up one of the marquee races in November, as Ayotte takes on incumbent Democratic Gov. Maggie Hassan.
NH-01: With Democrat Carol Shea-Porter unopposed, the action was on the GOP side. And there was more action there than we might have thought. Businessman Rich Ashooh has been within shouting distance of incumbent Rep. Frank Guinta all night, even leading at various points. With 75% reporting, Guinta has edged out to a 47-45 lead, which is a raw vote edge of just over 700 votes.
DE-AL: The only mystery here was on the Democratic side, where Lisa Blunt Rochester (a former state labor secretary) wound up winning comfortably. She will be a heavy favorite over Republican Hans Reigle.
DE-Gov: The nominees were set here, as well, with Democratic Rep. John Carney taking on GOP state legislator Colin Bonini. Carney is a heavy favorite.
NY State Senate: The legislative candidates were on the ballot tonight, and in one high-profile Democratic showdown, it looks like the IDC has added to their roster with a primary win in SD-31 (currently held by Antonio Espaillat).
RI State Legislature: In a big under-the-radar development, it looks like a series of challenges from the left paid big dividends tonight, as at least seven Democratic incumbents went down to defeat.
