On Saturdays, the True Blue Report “Blue Ribbon” will be awarded to individuals or groups with the most successful, dramatic, or encouraging act of resistance in the previous week.
Some winners will be named in the body of the diary and you can nominate other worthy ribbon winners in the comments.
First ribbon goes to Sheldon Whitehouse for his opening statement at the Gorsuch confirmation hearing, detailing the stark pattern of rulings when there is a 5-4 majority of Rcon appointees on the Supreme Court:
Al Franken must also get a ribbon for his outstanding questioning of Gorsuch about the “Frozen Trucker” case:
A blue ribbon for Bobby Brooks as well: Any young progressive leader in Texas who can win an election (ok, it was student body president, but still), defeat the progeny of a wealthy Rcon donor who supported DJT and is used to getting his way, and make Rick Perry sputter that it is unfair to be elected if you lose the popular vote, has got to be recognized!
What more can be said about Betsy Anderson? Her outstanding letter went viral, as it deserved to. I wish I had more than a virtual blue ribbon to give her. I dream of writing a rant this good some day!
There is still time to rec and comment on Leslie Salzillo's diary about Betsy Anderson’s letter: Dear Mom—About your 50 year nursing career and Medicaid. Thom Hartmann gave a shout out to Salzillo and Daily Kos when he read the Anderson letter on the air on Friday!
Last and definitely, definitely not least, MILLIONS of ribbons for the phone callers who jammed the Capitol switchboards pleading to save the ACA, especially Thursday and Friday! Hot damn! It really seemed hopeless but we did not give up! We outnumber them!
Republicons turned on each other and ZEGS is such a weak Speaker there was no party discipline to hold them together. DJT’s threats to make them lose their seats didn’t faze them. Steve Bannon’s threats could not move them. Some very strange bedfellows, the Koch Brothers, brought in their money to sweeten the deal.
Even former Speaker Newt Gingrich even had to slap some sense into them—who brings a bill for a vote that has 17% approval? Rcons had demonized the word “Obamacare” over seven years of GOPropaganda, but once the word got out that the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare were the same thing, the people who were afraid of losing their coverage (and their subsidies) flipped the script in a matter of months. The elephant is in the room, the truth is in your face! So ribbons to the phone callers and town hall screamers and everyone else who helped drive the approval rate DOWN to 17%!
I know i’ve left out a lot because it was an amazing week.
Honorable mention ribbon to Eric Schniederman for hiring anti-corruption expert who used to work for Preet Bharara to investigate DJT’s conflicts of interest.
And another honorable mention ribbon to Fareed Zakaria for calling BS exactly what it is.
Please add your recommendations for other blue ribbon winners in the comments!
there ain’t no substitute for the truth, either it is or it isn’t
