I have done diaries in the past on TED Talks, and on locally organized TEDx experiences. We had another of those last Saturday at a local university, just wonderful! I recommend attending any TED or TEDx events you can.
I never cease to be surprised by the breadth of subjects people choose. I always go in cold, not researching the subjects ahead of time so it will be fresh. The talk stands or falls on its merits, but it’s new to me. The person and the perspective. I cherish it.

Top Comments recognizes the previous day's Top Mojo and strives to promote each day's outstanding comments through nominations made by Kossacks like you. Please send comments (before 9:30pm ET) by email to topcomments@gmail.com or by our KosMail message board.
Occasionally (it happened last Saturday), one of the presenters will make a comment about the talk itself. It must be somewhat scary! For some of the presenters, at least. Public speaking doesn’t come easily to everyone.
I don’t often have occasion to speak in public. I had to teach a short class last week. That was on a subject I knew pretty well, in front of about 60 people that I also knew pretty well. I had prepared for it. It wasn’t uncomfortable, I wasn’t nervous. Both good things!
I don’t know how it would be with a TEDx presentation. That would only be with a few people I would know. They would probably be there FOR me. I’m not sure if that would be a good thing or a bad thing!
That’s what I want to ask tonight. Have you ever given a presentation like a TED Talk? If not, have you ever thought about giving one? Is there something you would like to present, sometime? (No, you don’t have to tell us what it is.)
Are there TED or TEDx talks you have seen on YouTube that have left a lasting impression? Any you care to share?
Thanks for reading, this Saturday! On to comments!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.

From Ed Tracey:
In the diary by Jessica Sutherland - about the self-penned obituary by a man near Albany, New York who lamented his upcoming death from lung cancer due to his cigarette habit he was unwilling to break - grubber, in this comment, was able to unearth the public service announcement made by the film star Yul Brynner years earlier .... which made the same point.
From belinda ridgewood anddurrati:
durrati diaries video of a righteous rant by Sarah Kendzior, and in the thread, NP40 answers with another great rant that is absolutely right.
From Tamar:
In this comment, bkamr sums up the need or us to direct our energy and anger at the Republicans instead of at each other.
