7/27 update: we are at $897 $1328 $2421 $3851 $4011!!!!
7/25: NEWS!!! It’s on hold!
OMG. As amazing a deal as the 1999 Coachman was, I found a BETTER one! Sheer and absolute luck: I was looking at some potential backups in case the Coachman sold before I could get it. One of them was at a nearby RV dealership. It was "eh" and too expensive, but literally as I was there looking at it, a family traded in their 2004 Tioga SL in BEAUTIFUL shape, I mean gorgeous:
On top of everything else, the previous owners (who I got to meet as they were unloading stuff from this into their new RV) put a NEW Ford Triton engine in it at 68k. So the engine only has 35,000 miles on it.
So, I “got” the Tioga for $7,000 (well… $7924.19, which includes tax, title, registration, and dealer fee which covers tank dump, propane system check, and state inspection. In other words, everything but insurance.) They’re holding it for me for two weeks — IF I can raise the other $4250 in that time!!
Please help if you can!

7/20 5 pm: Everyone, thank you so much. I went and checked a few minutes ago, and between Gofundme and Paypal we are at $3261 — just $72 short of 1/3 of the way there!!
I’m sorry I wasn’t onsite yesterday — I was wiped out. As soon as I got home from my Dr. appt, I just crawled in bed and slept till midnight. The upside was that when I woke up, I finally got to sit down and write thank yous to everyone who has donated so far (there were a lot!) with one exception: DK member whose initials are EE, Paypal won’t let me message you, but thank you SO much for your donation!!
If you haven’t donated yet and can and would like to (even $10 adds up!!), please use:

In more good news, Seeya is still eating and drinking on her new medicines, although I can tell she’s not very comfortable. I’m trying to hold off on the prednisone because on Wednesday she has an ultrasound so we can hopefully figure out what the underlying problem is, and steroids could mask any internal swelling that’s going on.
In the meantime she is commandeering my lap pretty much 24/7! She’s such a little love :-)
7/18 12 pm: Guys, it is very late and I am exhausted — it was a day of ups and downs and lots of worry about Seeya, who I had to take back to the vet this morning. BUT!!! She is now on an anti-nausea medication, ate AND drank really well as soon as it kicked in, and eight hours later, not a single puke! Yay!
So I am very sorry, but I am going to respond to comments tomorrow — and send out thank yous! OMG, I have SO many thank you notes to write!!! I will jump on first thing tomorrow to catch up with anything I’ve missed!
Original diary: Hi everyone! As many of you know, I caught Covid back in February 2020, about a week before it exploded all over the news. Unfortunately, the long-term effects have been pretty brutal, and I now have a number of permanent health issues. I’ve only made it this far due to the generosity of the DK community, especially Vetwife who posted a fundraiser for me back in March, aashirs nani who helped make it such a success, and the DK members who so generously donated to keep me and my kitties afloat. You guys are amazing!!!
Unfortunately, according to the SSA it could still be more than a year (!!!) before an adjudicator is appointed to my case. And so I’m looking long-term at how to cut my living expenses to the bone.
Living in Virginia, an RV is really quite a viable option (no 5 month winters!). I’d been thinking about it for quite a while, but then I saw this! A 1998 Coachman in solid mechanical and physical shape, needing a few repairs that are within my abilities, for $6500.
A home. A home that I own, small and portable though it may be, for $6500.
Please, if you can, please help make it happen:

I already went and looked at it, and it really is solid. The work it needs is all stuff I can do (I may have to draft my son to help a bit!) I'm hoping eventually to afford a small piece of land to go with it, but in the meantime with the help of friends I should be able to "park" it inexpensively and thus remove my single largest monthly expense, which is rent.
I’m hoping to raise a bit extra to retrofit it for solar (right now the stove and furnace run on propane), and cover the repairs — aiming for 10k total for title/registration/taxes (after Gaelsdottir reminded me!) and hopefully the solar as well. Wheezer and Seeya are used to an apartment which honestly is not much bigger than an RV -- I suspect they'll make the transition pretty easily :-)
It would be SO amazing to have an affordable, sustainable, and long-term "house" for my small family! Thank you so much for reading this, and for any help you can give.
