All we need is for one Senator to speak, on the Senate floor:
"I've listened to the arguments in recent days, and none of us have hit upon the right question with the appropriate emphasis.
"Sam Alito is a believer in a doctrine of law that allowed the establishment of Adolph Hitler's dictatorship. This man believes in Nazi legal doctrine. We can prove it"
Those would be words that could well save our nation. The question is, do we have a Senator with the courage to speak them?
We can't presume to know what the immediate reaction would be in the seconds following their utterance. Perhaps the statement could throw some Republicans into an uproar. If so, that would be good; hello national press coverage, hello nationwide dialogue and argument.
More in extended...
If our courageous Senator is allowed to continue speaking, there are many possibilities. Right now I'm thinking it would be good to soon yield to a colleague to carry on the sharply-pointed argument. The more colleagues, the more successful we will be.
So, my question is, how can this statement be followed with sharp, very pointed and focussed words appropriate to the Senate of the United States to stop the Alito appointment and to make people both think, and have courage?
We've got to control this virus of fascism now, while we still have the power to do so.
After Hitler was appointed to the Chancellorship, in January 1933, his opposition, the socialists, sat back and said, 'No, we're going to defeat him in the next election.'
There was never a next election. Because the Notverordnung of February 1933 eliminated the political factor.
