Click & Clack are no more, so I need whatever help I can get!
I am trying to put fresh brakes on my 1985 Chevy G20 van. I’ve done this before on different types of vehicles but this time I am stranded. I have a big move upcoming, another life upheaval but everything grinds to a halt without wheels!
The red arrow indicates an overlap of about 2 mm, enough so that I cannot slide the caliper fully into position. The caliper fits fine with the inner brake pad in place, but simply will not with the outer pad in place.
I do not know if the sleeve at the tip of the red arrow moves; I have tried to press it back with a C-clamp with no movement of the sleeve at all. This has become a real problem; its my only ride, its in my driveway without a wheel, and I have $50 to my name. My greatest fear is having to detach the caliper, forcing me to bleed brakes single-handedly.
The auto part store is already closed, and the only local mechanic I know just up and died. I went to his wake earlier today.
Thanks for any suggestions!
