Enjoying the train wreck that is the RNC this year? Watching the last days of the Grand Old Party as it is steamrolled by the antics of the newly anointed head of the Republican Party? Well, you shouldn't be.
Things have been heading down this road for the last 8 years, if you just noticed politics recently because it only recently affected you personally. The thing is, the "Crazy train" has been plowing through this Country for years if you paid attention to American History, instead of just the last few election cycles. America has a strong history of fundamentalism, and how openly we display the vile part of morality. Take for example 1939, and the rather successful Madison Square Garden Nazi convention. Or if you wish to look further into history, the release of D.W. Griffith's "Birth of a Nation," in 1915 should cement the fact that fundamentalism/racism/fascism can be very popular in this country - a more recent example would be the popularity of "American Sniper."
I found it laughable that media clowns on Fox and other stations when President Obama was elected, coined the phrase “post racial America" - that some magic slate was cleared because America FINALLY elected an American Citizen of color (Citizen being much debated later by the Republican base and Party until Trump “settled the issue” recently) to the highest office.
Now that idea has been practically swept under the thick carpet of History, and a certain group is stating this American President is the cause of racism in this country today.
But going back to the RNC circus tent, the speeches, the plagiarism, the calls for prison, and of course "Benghazi!" People seemed to be ignoring the theme of "revenge" being spoken up on stage and on the floor in their promises of making "America Great Again" printed on caps manufactured in China. That theme of Revenge is the special kind, the kind that can get horrible results.
White Revenge - you know the revenge of those who grew up in privilege, that brought us public lynchings on postcards, slavery continued enforcement through a class and rigged judicial system in the South (it was still in the North but the South has its sickening thick sweet hospitality charm). Revenge of those who feel victimized, especially since their “religious” morales have been publically dashed nationally (equality in marriage apparently isn't popular with the generation of those that put a soft light on the hate over the years).
And as usual the Democratic Party in the general is panicking, just as they begin to notice the sudden drop in polls of hopefully our first Female President — Hillary Clinton. This was never a sure thing but a lot of people thought it would be when Trump became the nominee for the Republican Party. But no one thought with the dismissive approach to the youth vote and the actual merits Bernie Sanders brought to the forum of this election year would be of importance. But the fact we ignored the anger on our side, we are not prepared for the rising tide of anger of the Republican Party and those who, for matters of ignorance, felt victimized over the years as the world changed.
This is year you have to vote, even if you feel Hillary isn't the best choice… because seriously when Trump BECOMES President, people will die financially and literally in this nation as everything we have achieved so far is dashed against bloodied walls of “patriotism” of making America Great Again.
