I posted this in a comment and Night Owl asked me to put it in a diary. Here goes.

To me the mood was calmer. i was sitting in the front row, so admittedly I couldn't see all the lobbyists, but i heard behind me "Do you think we'll be ok on the Net Neutrality thing?" "Yeah." i got the impression that everyone was just waiting for the vote. no one in that room was undecided, so the arguments and debates meant little in terms of the final vote. if anything, the arguments were the tune-up for a better-publicized floor battle and the culmination of common knowledge within the room.

Please, tell us more about your impressions
on what was really going on in the hearing room. Stoller's story sounds like a made-for-TV movie---which is repulsive enough as it is, but even more so when you realize the seriousness of it all.
Mr. Smith does Go to Washington. But by the sound of it, he gets trampled by $1000 suits and blackberries. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about it . . .

Quick Background:
Net Neutrality is policy designed to preserve the free expression of ideas and free flow of content on the internet. Due to a recent announcement by the FCC, telecom companies will be allowed to control the flow of information over the internet pipelines if this legislation does not pass. Google, Ebay, and Amazon, along with bloggers on both extremes of the political spectrum, have joined together to defeat the telcoms' attempts to control the internet for profit. This issue is so crucial that MoveOn.org and the Christian coalition have allied to try to save the internet. According to Wikipedia, the UK, South Korea, and Japan, among others, all have net neutrality laws in place.

Just a few minutes ago, my superior pulled me in and told me that I would be allowed to work on any issue I wanted, including sitting in on hearings, reading bills, and so on. I want to use this opportunity to share my work with Daily Kos. Of course, information may be truncated, but you have my word that I will not distort or misrepresent anything intentionally or with malice aforethought. If anyone asks me something about the issue, I will find them an answer. In the Senate today, Alberto Gonzales did little to change my mind on the illegality of Bush's domestic wiretapping program. I suspect he even hurt his cause by exposing the sheer frailty of the legal reasoning involved in the defense of the program. The major victory won by the Bush administration, however, should be apparent. Amid a multitude of scandals surrounding the administration, Gonzales' appearance and defense has effectively changed the nature of the situation from one of scandal to constitutional debate. As corporate media reports on the `controversy' surrounding the program, they dutifully inoculate the public from the gravity and immediacy of the situation. In keeping with Rovian political strategy, Bush has `gone to the voters' to push his program, in an effort we have seen repeatedly distracts from tough questions and consequences in favor of media reporting on this allegedly democratic exercise of `citizen participation'.

I put this together so that there could be a lot of information together in one place. Please recommend so that this information stays available, it took me time and effort to compile.

As most of you know, Cindy Sheehan is the grieving mother Casey, an American soldier killed in Iraq. She has vowed to sit outside President Bush's vacation ranch until he comes out and answers her questions about the war. He refuses to speak to her, because he knows that her son died because of his deceptions used to start an unwarranted and unjustifiable war. Ms. Sheehan is being harassed by federal and local authorities multiple times a day. She has been threatened with arrest, prohibited from protesting, intimidated in various ways, and is facing a media blackout. Cindy herself asks us to join her in Crawford to support her cause. The only way to support our troops is to bring them home from this abomination of a war. Read More
