As I write this, Rick Sanchez is interviewing truckers on CNN who are unanimously supporting a general strike over the state of our economy.

It's time to stand up to the corporate fascists. It's time to stand up and be counted as a member of the collective, sovereign power of the United States, The People.

We are nothing more than peasants to be exploited in the eyes of the social aristocracy. I'm talking about the multiple-corporate-title-holding, self proclaimed "owners" of George Bush's "Ownership Society."

The Clinton and Obama campaigns should take a step back, and look forward.

22 Republican Senate seats are in play. Opportunities abound to increase the number of House seats occupied by Democrats after the next election.

The president and the vice president, and several of their current and former subordinates have committed numerous CRIMES, some of which carry the death penalty.

The policies of the current administration have created disasterous structural problems that will seriously harm our economy, and our entire social structure for at least a decade.

For all of the problems created by Bush & company, there are reasonable practical solutions, and the Democrats have those solutions.

Yesterday, three votes took place on the floor of the House of Representatives after Representative Dennis Kucinich entered a priviliged motion to move HR 333, a bill containing three particulars calling for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.

The first vote was taken when Steny Hoyer, the Majority Leader, moved to table the motion. THAT FAILED.

The second vote was also by Hoyer, this time moving to order the previous question and thus cut off debate. THAT CARRIED. 218 yeas, including 3 Republicans. 5 Democrats voted nay, 10 Democrats didn't vote!

The third vote was to refer the bill to the House Judiciary Committee, to open an impeachment inquiry. THAT CARRIED. 218 yeas, including 5 Republicans. 5 Democrats voted nay. 10 Democrats DIDN'T VOTE.

The House of Representatives just voted, a few minutes ago, to refer impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney to the House Judiciary Committee.

I immediately turned to CNN and MSNBC, expecting "BREAKING NEWS!"

They're ignoring it. They haven't mentioned it. It's not on their websites.

Currently, the Pentagon says that it is 2 million acres short of the space that it needs for military training. According to the Army, that shortage will rise to 5 million acres by 2011.

It's been said, most notably, and recently, by President Bush, that many of us on the left don't get it when it comes to fighting terrorism.

I get it.

Despite what I've said in other diaries and comments (go ahead and peruse my contributions here), I understand the threat from terrorism.

Unbeknownst to my audience of left-wing supporters, I have family members who fight terrorism. Every freakin' day.

Unbeknownst to many of you, I hold the SAME, if not stronger contempt for the religious fanatics and violent extremists who seek to kill our fellow Americans as I hold for the fascist, aristocratic pretenders who seek to exploit the activities of terrorists for their own economic and political gain.

They promote social aristocracy instead of popular sovereignty.

For two years now, military plans and movements have been made to support a plan to attack Iran. Unknown to many people, and not generally understood among politicians and journalists, is that there is a trigger for this war, and that trigger is a 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. I wrote a diary last night about the CA initiative to change the apportionment of presidential electors.

Here's what I understand, about this particular initiative:

Under the proposal, the winner-take-all system would be replaced with one in which the winning presidential candidate in each of California's 53 congressional districts would get one electoral vote, with two additional votes going to the statewide winner.

Doing THAT would allow a minority of voters who vote in heavily Republican, and sparsely populated, areas of CA to claim an estimated 20 of the 55 electoral votes in the next presidential election.
