I have just read the THIRD DIARY on the CA electoral apportionment initiative. This time, it's at the top of the recommended list. The last time I commented on this, it was on the front page.

The THIRD TIME someone has come on kos, hat in hand, with a canvasser pitch for us to dole out money to defeat the electoral apportionment initiative, by EDUCATING THE PUBLIC, presumably to vote the initiative down.

And this is the third time I have said: It's NOT NECESSARY.

The apportionment initiative is unconstitutional. It's not constitutional according to the US constitution, and it isn't even constitutional according to the CA constitution.

Many of you remember ole Taraka Das. Not so long ago, I published many diaries here on Daily Kos, and a few even made the rec list.

About six weeks ago, I disappeared. I went to New Hampshire. I worked as a canvasser for Working America. And I just got back.

Republican Senators criticized the vote of no confidence in AG Gonzalez as a meaningless piece of political theater, which had no precedent and no consequence.

Their arguments are correct. We DO NOT have a parliamentary system. The president IS NOT obligated to replace cabinet secretaries who fail confidence votes. But of course, that's not the point.

The "no confidence vote" is merely a novel device of OVERSIGHT. It's purpose is not legislative, but investigatory. The "no confidence vote" is a measure of SUPPORT for the Attorney General, who has committed NUMEROUS impeachable offenses which carry serious penalties as violations of the law.

I came up with at least that many MORE, in addition to his list.

I went through his list and mine, and put them in roughly chronological order.

I have NO DOUBT that even what I present here isn't comprehensive.

Full disclosure: I am a Universalist. THAT is my religion. I belong to the Unitarian Universalist Church, established over a hundred years ago. I could write a whole diary about my philosophy, but I will spare you. Suffice it to say that much of my belief system comes from a rational and intuitive understanding of scriptures and philosophical writings from many different traditions.

I do not pretend to speak for my church. I am not here to proselytize for my church. Nothing I say here should be considered an attack on anyone else's religion. Nothing I say should be considered the position of my church.

That said, this diary began on Sunday Morning, when, sitting in church, my minister, during his sermon, relayed an interesting fact which put an image in my mind.

At the very same time that George Bush was holding a press conference to accuse the Democratic leadership in Congress of REFUSING to fund troops in the field, a mad gunman was killing 32 people on a Virginia campus.

The news channels largely ignored the president's message, playing nonstop coverage of the carnage in Virginia. They also largely ignored Harry Reid's reply, in which he angrily denounced the false statements made by Vice President Cheney the previous day, rebutted Bush's false claim that funding for the troops was being refused, and hosted two retired generals to speak to the public about the Iraq War. Those two generals directly compared the surge to the failed policies in Vietnam.

But there was another story that everyone ought to know.

Today, media folks are all over the map trying to figure out what the meaning of the release of the British sailors and marines means.

There seems to be an unwillingness to acknowledge the most simple explanation. It's about forgiveness. It's about compassion. It's about a recognized concern for common interests.

Start it NOW.

Before the TERRORIST ATTACK that they are waiting for, and willing to LET HAPPEN, so they can exploit it to start a war with Iran.

Before ONE MORE DAY passes in which they PERSIST in committing WAR CRIMES, literally torturing people to DEATH who have never been accused, much less charged, much less PROVEN to be "terrorists."

Before one more American soldier DIES trying to carry out the ASSININE military strategy of chickenhawk cowards who don't have the first clue about how to fight and win a war, much less an understanding what kind of war is worth fighting.
