Has anybody confirmed the accuracy of the much-circulated report about armed deputies from the Gretna Sheriff's Dept. preventing thousands of citizens from walking out of NO on foot because they didn't want their area to turn into "another Superdome"?
There have been two diaries on Kos recounting people's personal experiences with those deputies, and Ray Nagin was interviewed about it on TV once, but, from where I sit, that is a huge story, and I think more would have been made of it. It truly is one of the most horrific, malicious stories to come out of this whole debacle.
Here are the two original diaries:

I have actually lost sleep over this because I've been fuming so much about it. But when I Googled "Gretna Sheriff," the only thing that came up was a couple of links to the original diary and some links to the actual department. I would think the entire netroots would be up-in-arms over these stories.
Has anybody--outside of the original diarists (the EMS technicians and Denise Moore)--verified their accuracy?
