The
troll pointed out that several other presidents have committed heinous acts. This particular troll neglected to include any recent Republican presidents thereby providing the main clue towards its trollhood.
It is still a fair question though. Is W really the worst of them all, so far?
Yes, because the whole is greater that the sum of the parts. Join me on the flip.
Whatever you say about Wilson, at least he won his war and was magnanimous towards the losers. Teddy Roosevelt told us that it is our patriotic duty to question the president. FDR passed the New Deal and won WWII. The buck stopped on the desk of the 'haberdasher from Missouri'.
If we are to fight nouns, I'll take LBJ's 'war on poverty' over the 'war on terror' any day. For one, I think that is a fight we can win someday. Reagan managed to not start WWIII and Bush Sr abstained from occupying Iraq. Clinton balanced the budget.
Alone among presidents since Herbert Hoover, I can not think of ANYTHING positive Mr Bush, Jr has done, that would not have been done by almost any conceivable administration. On the other hand I can think of many many things that this administration has done that would have made Nixon blanch and Kissinger choke in admiration of the chutzpah.
We need a word for this, for breakaway governments that while democratically (?) elected go off on the deep end completely and begin to destroy the polities that elected them. Andreas Papandreou in Greece in the eighties, Berlusconi in Italy now, a certain Austrian in a middle-European country in the thirties... Can you think of other examples?
Am I being unfair to Herbert?
