This is just a quick followup to
our diary from yesterday (kindly front-paged by
georgia10 and recommended by almost 100 Kossacks) about the so-called
Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordability Act (S.1955), a.k.a. the
"Enzi bill." Today,
Families USA and other national organizations are hosting a
National Call-In Day to Stop the Enzi Bill:
Call Your Senators, Toll-Free
1-800-828-0498
As we said yesterday in our diary, the Enzi bill is a very dangerous piece of legislation that would undermine health coverage for 85 million Americans by overriding existing state laws that guarantee coverage of such crucial services as cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancer screenings, as well as mammograms, mental health, well-child care, and many others. More on the flip.
When calling your Senators, you might want to make the following points:
* The Enzi bill would strip away mandated benefits that state legislatures have worked hard to pass over past decades,
* Impede access to health care providers that state legislatures have deemed necessary in their respective states,
* And undermine valuable rating rules that prevent insurers from discriminating based on health status, age, gender, and other criteria that prevent health care costs from skyrocketing for many Americans.
We know Kossacks are probably the best-informed folks on the Net, but in case you don't know who your Senators are, you can find out here.
For more on the Enzi bill, visit our Enzi Bill Resource Center. Also, make sure to check out nyceve's great diary on this. If you've written any Enzi-related diaries, feel free to post them on this thread.
One last point: it doesn't matter where you live or who represents you, we need ALL Senators to hear from you about this bill. Many Democrats think it's an innocuous bill and a cheap way to curry favor with the small business community. So even if one or both of your U.S. Senators is a Democrat, please call and urge them to this bill.
OK, that's enough for this diary--call now!
