Markos has posted a "Cattle Call" on the Front Page asking Kossacks to say how you think the vote would turn out if the caucus/primaries were today. He makes it clear that you should rank them as you think they'd finish if the elections started today, rather than in your personal order of preferences.
I'm asking that other question. How would you yourself vote if today was the big day? Right now. Not how you felt three months ago, or last year, but today, this minute. If you haven't yet made up your mind, that's what I'm asking you to do. Because, for those in caucus or primary states, you will eventually have to do just that, even if you ultimately make up your mind not to vote in the caucus or primary. So this isn't a test like Markos's of who you think would win if the voters were to choose today, it's who you personally want to win as of today.
If I could rejigger the polling template, I'd love to be able to ask you for your second choice, too. Not only because second choices actually make a difference in Iowa's results, but because second choices reflect an overall mood that is otherwise difficult to capture, especially among those who are strongly backing a candidate. But I can't. So we're stuck with a narrow range of preferences.
I'll go first. If the caucus/primary were today, with great reservations, with the full knowledge that Dennis Kucinich comes closer to my views on the issues than any of the eight candidates, with trepidation about many of his past votes, I'd cast my ballot for Christopher Dodd. My second choice would be John Edwards.
