Jerome a Paris wrote earlier today about Sen. John McCain's proposed gas tax holiday.
So I did some quick calculations to see the impact. According to the US government, Americans consume 388.6 million gallons of gas per day.
The current US population is 303,862,708 (as of this posting).
There are 94 days from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
With the gas tax at 18.4 cents per gallon, we will see a savings of $22.12 per person.
How do you plan on spending yours?
OK, if you want to get technical, some of that consumption is diesel which is taxed at 24.4 cents per gallon. If we took all of the consumption noted above and applied the diesel rate you would save $29.64 per person.
Let's help Jerome lose his bet. Let everyone know what they are really getting from this vote buying scam.
UPDATE I had a request for a calculation based on vehicles. There are 241,193,974 registered vehicles (passenger and commercial cars, trucks, and buses). That equates a savings of $27.89 per registered vehicle.
I know I'm missing motorcycles, lawn mowers, etc. in this method.
