We are still working to make clearer and simpler the various categories & voting in the poll on that topic. BUT, there are lots of cats that are set in stone.
Hence, let's go ahead and begin accepting your submissions!
Come below to nominate your favorite diary
in the following categories ONLY:
• Best Action Diary
• Best Visual Diary
• Best Non-political Diary
• Rant of the Year
• Snark of the Year
• Diary of the Year
• Best Investigative Diary (new!)
• Best Teaching Diary (new!)
• Comment of the Year (new!)
Good evening! Kitsap River here with Raven the woozle behind me kibitzing, and we will be your Nominations Editors today.
Previous nomination diaries:
kOscars™ 2010: More Nom-Nom-Nominations! by weatherdude
kOscars™ 2010: Bring on the Noms! by rb127
kOscars™ 2010: Nomination Time! by smileycreek
kOscars™ 2010: Let the nominations begin by LaughingPlanet
• It is up to all of us to determine the nominees in the comments.
If nothing else, please read the Rules for Nominating section below before posting comments about your nominees and/or confusion. There are only 4 rules; it's very simple, honest.
Your participation matters:
The reason this concept was successful last year was the groundswell of grassroots support. People saw these nomination diaries despite naught but one making the rec list. With that said, I truly hope that this year, participation will be an even more collaborative effort than last year's series.
This concept was stated more succinctly by exmearden
(The kOscar awards are) an excellent idea and one that I hope continues each year. Hopefully with a lot of collaboration so that just a few aren't carrying the major load...
Old business:
• Please vote in this poll to help cement the voting process of 2010
Listed are the 8 cats that had either fewer nominations, or fewer votes than the more popular categories last year.
All polls use Flash, hence you will need a Flash-enabled device to vote.
The poll here will allow multiple votes.
The current results show a clear winner, as it has more votes than the next 4 choices combined. With that said, I can also understand if people would prefer the 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th choices were allowed to endure. It is tough to combine a category, but with the addition of at least 2 new ones, it is absolutely necessary.
Poll closes TOMORROW. (Closes Dec. 18th)
NEW business:
Nominations
• How this works:
For the next week or so, our team of volunteers, LaughingPlanet, rb137, weatherdude, spedwybabs, boran2, GlowNZ, smileycreek, racheltracks & Kitsap River (all of whom were welcomed on a 1st-come basis in the earlier diaries this year), will post similar diaries soliciting submissions. In the comments, you leave your ideas for nominations for various categories.
The comments should look like this:
Best Visual Diary: (3+ / 0-)
My Graveside Encounter with President Obama by Al Rodgers
by Situational Lefty on Fri Feb 05, 2010 at 03:13:18 PM PST

Simple enough?
Please, please, use only that format for your nomination(s).
One nomination per comment.
Rules for Nominating
• Don't nominate yourself. It was already done 1st by Trix. It was funny the 1st time. If you mean it for real, well, that's kinda sad, don'tcha think? Find a friend or at least a sockpuppet to nominate yourself if you must.
• Focus squarely on dkos items from 2010 only. No exceptions.
• Make the category the title of your comment and limit yourself to just one nominee per comment. The "voting" (comment recommends) will be easier if we all stick to that formula.
• Have fun. This is not life or death stuff. Never forget Rule #62: Don't take yourself too damn seriously!
When you see a nomination in the comments that you like, uprate the comment. If the comment gets enough recs, it will automatically qualify for the 1st round of voting.
If you don't like the nomination, it's likely best to do nothing. Comments such as "That guy sucks" might earn HRs. We are here to praise good work, not criticize or tear each other down.

Remember, the diary you're nominating need not have spent even a moment on the rec list in order to qualify for nomination. If you think it's outstanding and worthy of greater visibility, even if it slipped off down the recent list in short order, please nominate it. You are also not limited to nominating a single diary. We do ask that you nominate only one diary in a given comment, but feel free to leave a dozen comments nominating a single diary apiece if you have a lot you'd like to see nominated.
Raven is largely being quiet (she had major emergency surgery Tuesday night and is recuperating) but is very interested in the process, especially if it involves food, tennis balls, Kongs, or taking things away of these things away from her brother Quinn. I will try to translate her comments from the original Dog but cannot guarantee that I speak Dog with any sort of understandable accent.
