Welcome, friends. The purpose of this regular series is to promote enthusiasm and action among Daily Kos members. Romney will very likely out-fundraise President Obama. However, we believe that we can still win if (1) we can remain competitive financially, and (2) we volunteer our time and energy (GOTV, canvassing, phonebanking, LTE, ...).

It's Monday evening again, and this time, I remembered it was my day to do ONN. In a very self-referential way, my first two stories link to my own diaries from earlier today. Both are short and consist mostly of Barack Obama's answers at an impromptu press conference today.
1. President Obama Says Romney's Campaign is Based on Lies.
President Obama answering a question about the Priorities ad and the tone of the campaign.
I don’t think that Governor Romney is somehow responsible for the death of the woman that was portrayed in that ad. But keep in mind, this is an ad that I didn’t approve; I did not produce; and as far as I can tell, has barely run. I think it ran once. Now, in contrast, you’ve got Governor Romney creating as a centerpiece of his campaign this notion that we’re taking work requirement out of welfare. Which every single person here who’s looked at it says, it’s patently false
snip
Everybody who’s looked at this says what Governor Romney is saying is absolutely wrong. Not only are his Super PACs running millions of dollars worth of ads making this claim; Governor Romney himself is approving this and saying it on the stump. So the contrast I think is pretty stark. They can run the campaign that they want; but the truth of the matter is, you can’t just make stuff up. That’s one thing you learn as president of the United States. You get called into account.
This gave me the title. President Obama has been fighting hard the entire campaign. Just a few weeks ago, Mitt Romney was whining about how mean the President was. Romney is a bully with his money and status. And Obama knows how to take down bullies: by standing up to them. It's hard to get the nuance down right when you call your opponent a liar. If Obama calls Romney a "liar," like some want him to do, the Republican faux outrage machine goes into action and the media follows the outrage. Instead, President Obama describes Romney over and over as a liar. Those capable of listening will hear the message.
This is Trumanesque in Obama's own way. Barack Obama is telling the truth about Romney and Mitt thinks it's hell.
So, Give em hell, Barack!
2. President Obama: "Rape is rape."
President Obama responds to Todd Akin's odious remarks about "legitimate rape."
"Rape is rape," Obama said. "The idea that we should be parsing, and qualifying, and slicing what types of rape we're talking about, doesn't make sense to the American people."
Obama added that Akin's remarks are further evidence of why it doesn't make sense for legislators, "most of whom are men," to make decisions regarding women's health.
3. Going after Paul Ryan.
The Obama campaign is set to release seven radio ads that escalate its attacks on Paul Ryan, his Medicare plan, and the fiscal priorities that are at the heart of his vision.
WaPo, Greg Sargent, the Plum Line: The attacks on Paul Ryan escalate
Sargent has examples. In Florida it's Medicare. In Iowa, it's clean energy, especially wind energy. Etc.
4. Dems are tagging Romney/Ryan with Akin. :-)
On Monday, Democrats highlighted Mr. Ryan’s history of opposing abortion — even in cases in which a woman is raped — after controversial comments from Representative Todd Akin, the Republican candidate for Senate in Missouri.

Mr. Ryan’s different position on abortion has given Mr. Obama’s team an opening, much the way his proposals for turning Medicare into a voucher program have provided fresh ammunition for Democrats to attack the Republican ticket as they appeal to older people.
“As a Republican leader in the House, Mr. Ryan worked with Mr. Akin to try to pass laws that would ban abortion in all cases, and even narrow the definition of ‘rape,’ ” Lis Smith, a spokeswoman for Mr. Obama, said in a statement on Monday.
“Every day, women across America grapple with difficult and intensely personal health decisions — decisions that should ultimately be between a woman and her doctor,” Ms. Smith added. “These decisions are not made any easier when Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan treat women’s health as a matter of partisan politics.”

5. President Obama is eating dinner in DC at a restaurant with winners of a campaign contest. Here are the lucky people:
1) David Garcia is an associate music professor at the University of Norrh Carolina and described as a supporter of the presiident's recent Executive Order enacting part of the DREAM Act. He was accompanied by his wife, Rose, a pre-school teacher.
2) Ben Oakleaf, a wildfire smokejumper from Idaho, described as " proud to have a President who supports the environment and stands up for the middle class." He brought his mother Judy, a retired high school English teacher.
3)Latashar Scurry is an assistant high school principal in Florida, and morher of two girls. She is a breast cancer survivor, who thanks to the Affordable Care Act doesn't have to worry about being denied health care coverage because of her pre-existing condition. She brought her husband, Henry, a ninth grade math teacher and football coach

6. Bonus fun. Devo - Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro! (Seamus Unleashed)
Devo's Jerry Casale:
"I think any animal lover that hears the story will learn so much about the character flaw of Romney. It's just a deal-breaker about the man. My God, the world is a scary place with seven billion people. What you want in a leader is a guy with some humanity at his core. I just don't feel that Mitt does."
