Claire McCaskill is rewriting the playbook on defending a blue Senate Seat in a state trending Red and, I think, having a good time doing it. She calls her three potential opponents in Missouri's upcoming (August 7th) Republican primary “Three of a kind, one and the same." But this is not strictly true because in this particular Wingnutapalooza one little wingnut shines with singular shininess.
More beneath the kosclone...
Ya'll might (or might not) remember Todd Akin from this video...
featured here and branded an "instant contender for Craziest campaign ad of the year."
Obviously crazy Todd is striving to break out of the "Three of a kind" mold and is spit-polishing his blinding batshit patina in his efforts to do so.
In a political gambit I call "burnishing the wingnut", which will soon rate up there with the Sicilian Defense, Claire is spending hard won campaign funds helping Todd to do just that. Check this out:
The hilarious part of this is that she is running this ad on rightwing radio here in deeply crimson SW Missouri. Choice out takes such as:
"A Crusader Against Bigger Government"
"Wants to Eliminate the Department of Energy and Education"
and the...
"Obama menace to civilization" whopper will not have wingnuts retiring to their fainting couches but rather have them scurrying to top off the ole monster truck making sure they got enough premium to make it to the polls to pull the lever for Akin.
The beauty of this ad is that it can pull double duty. It serves equally well in sane areas of the state in galvanizing democrats for the general as it does in the outlands propelling the batshit base into their pickup trucks.
Whether this ad will be enough to overcome Malibu Barbie's endorsement of Akin's primary opponent, Sarah Steelman remains to be seen, but it probably knocks the third Mouseketeer, deep-pocketed John Brunner out of contention.
Now I know our own kos purity posse does not view saving Missouri's Senate seat, the one occupied by HST, and preserving another vote for sanity, womens' health, reproductive freedom and Obama's future SCOTUS nominations as a priority but Claire and I and her other volunteers here do, so we all will be joining Claire in her efforts to "Burnish the Wingnut" and will be requesting Republican ballots on August 7th and proudly casting our votes for Todd Akin.
"Burnish the Wingnut" Claire, polish the little wingnut til it glows shiny bright...
