Yeah, I'm greedy. Seriously, it's just not enough for me to know that that smug, smirking, entitled bastard Mitt Romney will go down in a humiliating defeat on November 6th.
It's not enough for me to imagine how utterly uncomfortable and miserable he'll feel making that concession speech on live national television. It's not enough for me to imagine the drubbing he'll get (worse than GW Bush) for years to come within the Republican party.
It's not enough for me to savor the schadenfreude of witnessing Mitt Romney experiencing both the failure to get elected and the utter rejection of the American public, even after flinging a billion dollars and a selling his soul to a bunch of mouth-breathers to make a go of it.
I will smirk like an asshole (pfft, WTF am I talking about?! I will laugh the longest, deepest belly laugh and dance in the streets like it's mardi gras) when he's forced to realize, for the first time in his miserable life, and publicly on stage, at that, that no, money can't buy everything and that the American people are much smarter than he thought. I hope it causes him a major existential crisis and that he has that moment-of-death clarity when he can fully experience the soulless void of realizing that his entire life has been meaningless, relentless, and heartless destruction; an endless pursuit of nothing that really matters. And I hope that clarity dogs him utterly, like a Telltale Heart, until he changes or dies.
I will rejoice when he is faced with the reality that the "White Horse Prophecy", handed down by his "prophet" Joseph Smith, is nothing more than a bunch of empty words on a worthless paper. And that he's made an embarrassment of himself, his church and soiled forever his family name and legacy.
Oh, none of that, sweet as it will be, is enough for me. God-damnit I'm greedy. I want it ALL. If a little is good, well fuck, more is better. I want the entire GOP to feel completely and utterly demoralized. I want them hysterical; Wandering in the political wilderness, splitting in two (SoCons and FiCons) or maybe even three (SoCons, FiCon, LibCons). OH! How sweet it will be!!
I'm greedy. And I know you. You're a greedy fucking socialist hippie bastard too.
So this series is about a concerted effort for us to leave it all on the road. It will launch on Friday nights and run through the weekends beginning next week. And here's what we're going to do:
While the GOP SuperPACs are shifting money to down ballot races and we on the left are urging our safe-seat congressional representatives to share their massive war chests with colleagues in competitive races, in the end it's all about GOTV because it seems TV ads aren't quite the be-all and end-all this year, are they?
So we'll do weekend phone banking.
Every week, we'll choose two or three states (or more) to call. I will post all the downticket races, both at the federal and state level, in those diaries.
Our job is to connect into the OFA phone bank tool and make calls. Not JUST for the president, but to mention, and get a commitment, for every downticket race there is on the ballot. Get people committed to making a straight ticket vote and urging at least one friend to do the same.
In each diary I will list some of the key issues that voters in that state might need to know - things you can use as talking points or points of discussion to help voters understand why they need to pay attention to the congressional, state and local races.
At the end of the weekend, we'll tally our phone calls. We can set goals, make teams, "compete" with other blogs (?), report our awesome stories, whatever it takes. We're going to have FUN and further the process of demolishing the GOP.
Now, I need your opinion.
I think that we might be better off concentrating on states that have competitive congressional races and senate races, even if they are not swing states at the presidential level. My thinking is that the swings states will get plenty of attention from the top of the ticket. Not that that automatically translates into strong down ticket performance...
Of course, we could prioritize it: swing state + competitive congressional or senate races get first priority; states with competitive congressional and senate races, regardless of swing status comes next; swing states without competitive downticket races comes last.
What do you think? Concentrate on swing states? Concentrate on competitive races regardless of swing status? Or something else? Please let me know in the comments.
Once we have a consensus, I'll begin researching for the series and post the first diary in the series next Friday evening September 28.
Stay greedy my friends.
