In this diary I outlined a method for finding vulnerable Republican representatives.
Now, it's time for more research. Twitter handles. Positions. Dumbass statements. A start on this is below the fold; since this involves a lot of work and a lot of text, I'm dividing it up by state. Previously California and Colorado and Florida; Iowa and Illinois. And now, Michigan.
Oh, and if YOU have information on these people, PLEASE share it.
This list will be targeted by me on Twitter (I am @peterflom) with the hashtag #StopGOP. You can help by spreading the word, using the hashtag and exposing these Republicans!
In MI-06 Obama got 48.8% while Fred Upton got 54.6%. MI-06 is the southwestern corner of Michigan. It includes Kalamazoo and is just across the state border from South Bend and Gary, IN and a lot of Lake Michigan coast.
Upton was first elected in 1986. He has been endorsed by the Family Research Council, the NRA, Michigan Right to Life, and the Chamber of Commerce. Upton tweets as @RepFredUpton.
In 2012, Upton's big donors were big Pharma, health professionals, electric utilities and the oil and gas industry. He raised over $4 million against Mike O'Brien who raised less than $300,000. Upton has not faced a well-funded opponent in over a decade.
In 2014, Upton may run for Senate. If he does run, this is a good pickup opportunity. There is no announced Democratic challenger that I know of.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obama got 47.9% in MI-07 where Tim Walberg got 53.3%. MI-07 is in the southeastern part of MI, including the Lake Erie coast.
Walberg was first elected in 2010. He has been endorsed by the Citizens United Victory Fund, the NRA, Right to Life Michigan and the Chamber of Commerce. He tweets as @RepWalberg.
In 2012, Walberg's big donors were the retirement industry. He raised $1.5 million against Kurt Haskell who raised just over $100,000. Walberg voted against VAWA and then lied about it In 2014, Walberg has no announced Democratic challenger that I know of.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In MI-08 Obama got 48.0% while Mike Rogers got 58.6%. MI-08 is just north of MI-07.
Rogers was first elected in 2000. He has been endorsed by the NRA. Rogers tweets as @RepMikeRogers.
In 2012, Rogers big donors were health professionals, big pharma and the insurance industry. He raised $1.7 million against Lance Enderle who raised almost nothing. The last time Rogers faced an equally funded opponent was in 2000 when he ran in an open seat. In 2014, Walberg has no announced Democratic challenger that I know of, but Rogers may run for Senate or even appointed as head of the FBI.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and in MI-11 Obama got 46.9% while Kerry Bentivolio got 50.8%. MI-11 is an odd shaped district that looks like it includes the far northwestern suburbs of Detroit.
Bentivolio was first elected in 2012. He has been endorsed by Citizens for Traditional Values, National Defense PAC, the NRA and Right to Life Michigan. He tweets as @RepKerryB
In 2012, Bentivolio raised a relatively paltry sum of $500,000 and had no really big donors. He was slightly outraised by his opponent Syed Taj. In 2014, Bentivolio has no announced Democratic challenger that I know of. See also this diary by RKVU
