A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Will YOU Host a Party?
Not just any party, mind you. A progressive-style party!
Daily Kos & MoveOn.org
have joined forces to pursue a joint GOTV venture:
As most active Democrats know, this election year there are more registered Democrats than registered Republicans. Almost everywhere.
So if we can just TURN OUT THE BASE this November 4th?
We WILL win.
The US Senate will stay in Democratic hands, and there is even a chance (small though it may be) that if we turn out ENOUGH of the Base - we can take the US House, too.
In addition to running on-the-ground phone banking events in four major Metro Areas (see THIS Diary for details) over the entire month of October, our friends at MoveOn.org have put together something else for our intrepid, progressive Kossacks to use to GOTV in this mid-term cycle...
Election Day is already here—at least it is in Iowa, where early absentee voting began last month for one of the closest Senate races in the country. And almost in Colorado, where early voting is just over a week away and candidates are also running neck and neck. Almost half the voters in Iowa voted early in 2012.
So if you want to help stop the Republican takeover of the Senate, you're running out of time. You've seen the polls. You know the race for control of the Senate is going down to the wire.
And you know what Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz will do if they get control of the Senate. It'll be nothing but severe budget cuts, impeachment threats, and a rollback of progress on issues like climate and health care.
We're talking about the worst overreaching excesses of this irresponsible, extremist GOP. We've got to stop them now. There's seriously no more time to wait.
Almost half the voters in Iowa voted early in 2012. So we're ramping up our campaign to make 5 million phone calls to progressive voters, and we're hosting our second consecutive weekend of get-out-the-vote call parties next weekend. This round of parties, called The 99% Strikes Back will be focused on getting economic justice for the 99% by calling voters in two key states whose outcomes could determine control of the Senate—Iowa and Colorado.
Can you sign up to host a 99% Strikes Back call party next Saturday October 18 or Sunday October 19 and help MoveOn hit our goal of having 5,000 GOTV callers next week, to make sure progressive voters in these key states turn out at the polls?
We've spent much of the past year developing our state-of-the-art voter turnout strategy—a combination of tried-and-true old-school tactics and new innovations that are allowing our volunteers to turn out voters more efficiently than ever before.
A big part of that strategy? Helping people vote early in the key battleground states. In addition to Iowa and Colorado, early voting begins soon in North Carolina and South Dakota.
These are all states where voters will determine whether or not the GOP will be calling the shots in the Senate for the next two years. If we can get a majority of our voters in states like Iowa and Colorado to vote before Election Day, that'll allow us to focus all our energy on the people who are least likely to vote.
So far, the strategy's working.
Early reports from Iowa are that almost twice as many Democrats as Republicans have requested absentee ballots. We just need to make sure that progressive voters there—along with those in Colorado and other key states—actually cast their ballots by the rapidly approaching deadline.
If you want to help stop the Tea Party takeover, there's no more time to wait. In key states, Election Day is already here. So, can you sign up to host a 99% Strikes Back call party to help progressive voters turn out to vote?
Yes, I'll sign up to host a 99% Strikes Back call party next weekend.
Step outside of your comfort zone. Take every erg of the bile and rancor which the Republican Party has brought out in you and
put it to good use in the next two weeks. Host a little
progressive bash and make some phone calls to
already registered Democratic voters in States where the tide can be
pushed a wee bit in order to avert a Republican Senate Majority in 2015...
Because THAT is a future I refuse to accept. Not when it is within our power to prevent it from happening. By talking on the phone to other Democrats, across the country. How freaking cool is THAT?
FYI: I highly recommend anyone who has never phone banked or door knocked to read THIS DIARY: Diary of a Canvassing Virgin by SteelerGrrl
Put your #BigGirl or #BigBoy pants on and join us as we
turn the tide and surprise the Mainstream Media, the Beltway Pundits and best of all - the Republican Leadership... when we send Mitch McConnell home
FOR GOOD on November 4, 2014.
Do it to try something new.
Do it because you want a better future for your family.
Do it because you are ready to put YOUR words into ACTION.

by John Crapper ♥ for Seattle and Puget Sound Kossacks
On Saturday 10/4/14, the Seattle and Puget Sound Kossacks had the chance to have lunch with Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant.
...In 2012, Kshama ran as a Socialist Alternative candidate for WA State Legislature and surprised everyone by winning 29% of the vote. The momentum continued in her campaign for Seattle City Council where she boldly ran on a platform of fighting for a $15/hr minimum wage, rent control and taxing the super-rich to fund mass transit and education. In November she defeated a 16-year incumbent Democrat to become the first socialist elected in a major US city in decades.
Kshama Sawant now chairs Seattle City Council's Energy Committee which covers Seattle City Light, alternative energy sources, energy policies and air pollution regulations.
bleeding blue videotaped the address and the Q&A session that followed:

by susans ♥ for Los Angeles Kossacks
At the monthly meeting of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, SEIU, airport workers and Daily Kos (represented by susans and Joshua Bloxom) presented them with a 48,000 signature petition demanding safer working conditions. Also present were representatives of CLUE, Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice, who submitted a letter of support to the board.
[...]
The SEIU organizers led a short rally outside of the building at One World Way after the meeting. SEIU represents people who do a lot of different jobs at LAX: they work in the terminals as wheelchair pushers, door openers, janitors, various other positions and on the ramp (outside). Some of them spoke at the rally, again in English and Spanish. They asked me to speak, something I was totally unprepared for. I briefly told them about DK and that I would be writing about the event and posting it online.
A special thank you to Josh, who took multiple trains up from Orange County to support airport workers and represent Daily Kos. It was great talking to you and I look forward to another opportunity to spend some time together.

by tmservo433 ♥ for Kansas & Missouri Kossacks
tmservo433 organized a registering-to-vote event for Ford County, Kansas in Dodge City to reach out to Latino voters there. He partnered with League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and the Ford County Democratic Party. 150 people attended to listen to John Thomas (KS House District 119 Candidate), Jean Schodorf (Secretary of State Candidate), Jim Sherow (US House, KS District 1 Candidate), Mark Low (Kansas House Candidate, District 115).
"LULAC volunteers sat at their table and handled registration after registration as people came to the event to listen to how they could change their state. We knew that not only were we helping to register new and first time voters, we were helping to bring a message into a community that has been ignored - and to help them take that message back to their friends and families."
This is a great example of reaching out to disenfranchised communities and helping them vote. Because If Democratic base voters turn out, we win. Can't be said enough. More regions need to do this.
Please visit tmservo433's diary for many MORE photos! Enjoy! You can still REC it. You can join Kansas & Missouri Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to tmservo433.
