Politics is about the personal. We come to Daily Kos to read about politics and make the world a better place, but we also come with personal stories that shape our politics. And as we learned in campaigns for marriage equality and immigration reform (for example), these first-person stories can be very powerful and persuasive at moving hearts and minds. Do you have a personal story to share that shaped your political perspective?
Please tell us that story by logging back into Daily Kos, and writing a diary. We know it can be intimidating to write about politics on Daily Kos, but no one is a better expert on your own life than you. Your story offers a perspective that can make a difference. For a little inspiration, click below the fold to check out a few community diaries—written from a first-person perspective with a powerful political message.
We all have personal stories to share, stories that bring a human perspective to the news we read about on Daily Kos. Please log back into your account, and tell us your personal story. If you need help, the following resources are available to make writing on Daily Kos a better experience:
- Did you write a diary, but got discouraged because no one recommended it—so it got lost in the shuffle? Every Daily Kos diary now gets read by a volunteer community member—we call them Rescue Rangers. If you wrote a good diary but it never made the Recommended list, one of our Rescue Rangers might place it on the “Community Spotlight” list on the front page. Click here to read more about that.
- Are you unsure about your writing skills, and want some help on being a better diarist? Join our New Diarists group, where you can post your diaries—and have a more experienced diarist give you helpful feedback. You can send them a direct message here.
- Are you a relatively new user who feels overwhelmed and confused by the site? Daily Kos has a Welcome New Users group that gives you great tips—both technical and how to interact with the community. Even old-timers love to check in, because the advice is very helpful. Bookmark its page for future reference, and you can contact the group here.
In short, we are ready to make your experience as a Daily Kos diarist a good one. So please log back into your account, and tell us what’s on your mind.
