A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Who are Your Favorite Political Satirists or Cartoonists?
Does your local newspaper have a good political cartoonist, or does no one really read newspapers any more? Are any of the Daily Kos cartoonists among your favorites? (Ok, I'll admit to having a big ol' soft spot for our very own ericlewis0 of Animal Nuz).
Yesterday's events brought home the power -- and the danger -- inherent in political cartooning and satire. And yet, as an editor from The Onion noted yesterday, satire is crucial to democracy.
Satire must always accompany any free society. It is an absolute necessity. Even in the most repressive medieval kingdoms, they understood the need for the court jester, the one soul allowed to tell the truth through laughter.
Twitter was ablaze with democracy yesterday.
Please follow the brave cartoonists below on Twitter.

I've always maintained I need my news pre-digested by a comedian. Maybe it started when as a little kid I found a hardcover book of inscrutable New Yorker cartoons I spent hours puzzling over. From Pogo to The Smothers Brothers to Doonesbury to Funny Times to The Daily Show and to Twitter, I've always relied on comedians and cartoonists and satirists to help make sense of the world.
And yesterday the very act of cartooning proved death-defying.
David Pope @davpope
Undeterred by threats they carried on, including George Wolinski, the 80 year old cartoonist murdered yesterday, who once said of his own eventual death:
I want to be cremated.
I said to my wife, you throw the ashes in the toilet so I see your ass every day.
Steve Marmel @Marmel
(I'm not certain who created this image, though it is now Marmel's twitter avatar)
Ruben L. Oppenheimer @RLOppenheimer
How about political satirists? With Stephen Colbert on to the Big Show, has anyone gotten hooked on John Oliver's Last Week Tonight yet?
Share your favorites, old and new, with us in the comments.
And as always, this is also an open thread!

THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY
by Thinking Fella ♥ for Four Corners Kossacks
There are meet-ups and then, there are EPIC meet-ups. The current designate always upstages the previous one. And that is precisely what Thinking Fella has done with this event. We were all green with envy when he announced it with just a few short weeks notice. He had a fantastic turnout anyway. Try to top this event. With 58 scenic photos of gorgeous Colorado and wonderful Kossacks, Thinking Fella showed us who's boss when it comes to meet-ups. He holds the trophy now. Who wants to take it away from him? Throw your gauntlet down at any time.
It's important to note that this terrific diary inspired 8 more people to join the Four Corners Kossacks. Again, Thinking Fella knows what he's doing. High five, buddy!
Here's one photo:

Please visit Thinking Fella's diary for a zillion MORE photos! Enjoy! You can still REC it. You can join Four Corners Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to Thinking Fella.
