GA-SD-06: Longtime DKE fans will understand this reference—with 94% of precincts in, it looks like Democrats benefited from a reverse CA-31 effect tonight. Junkies will recall that, in that California district in 2012, Democrats were shut out of the general election when they simply had too many primary candidates, allowing the two Republicans to sneak by and make the general election.
Tonight, the two main Democrats in the race (Jen Jordan and Jaha Howard) split 48 percent of the vote. The three leading Republicans, meanwhile, split 45 percent. But because the two Dems split it evenly, it will be an all-Democratic runoff in this GOP-held seat.
What a fitting close to the night.
