The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden occupies 127 acres in the heart of historic Rancho Santa Anita. Landscape architect Edward Huntsman Trout designed the herb garden in 1953 to showcase plants and trees used for medicines, spices, textiles, and other ethnobotanic purposes.
