Well, we now know that when Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow claimed that he and Trump had nothing to do with Don Juniors misleading initial statement in response to the news that he had had a meeting with a Russian Lawyer and her ex-GRU pal at Trump Tower — he was lying.
Flying home from Germany on July 8 aboard Air Force One, Trump personally dictated a statement in which Trump Jr. said that he and the Russian lawyer had “primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children” when they met in June 2016, according to multiple people with knowledge of the deliberations. The statement, issued to the New York Times as it prepared an article, emphasized that the subject of the meeting was “not a campaign issue at the time.”
For the record, trying to shape the narrative by giving a false story to his staff while he was being sued was considered Obstruction of Justice during the Impeachment Hearings for Bill Clinton.
Sean Spicer admitted that he lied when he said he knew nothing about the False Right-wing conspiracy the former DNC staffer Seth Rich was responsible for leaking emails to Wikileaks instead of Russia because he had a meeting with former Detective Ed Wheeler and GOP Activist Ed Butowski over the matter, and that Trump personally edited the story before it was reported by Fox News, which could also be considered an attempt to obstruct the Russia investigation.
Trump’s claim that Mexico would “pay for the wall” and that his denials about the story of him arguing with the Prime Minister of Australia over accepting refugees were both lies. Trump also lied when he said that the President of Mexico “called him” to praise his job on border control, and that the head of the Boy Scouts “called him” to say he did a great job at his Jamboree speech. They didn’t.
Trump continued to claim that the Russia investigation is a “total fabrication” — although we now know that they lied about “not meeting with any Russians” because Don Jr, Kushner and Manafort all did exactly that while discussing opposition research against Hillary Clinton and Sanctions on Russia such as the Magnitsky Act, then they deliberately lied about what happened at that meeting, and also that Jeff Sessions lied under oath about discussing the campaign with Ambassador Kislyak when he met him at the Mayflower Hotel and at the RNC.
Meanwhile Special Counsel Bob Mueller has now established a Grand Jury and begun issuing subpoenas to investigate obstruction of Justice, the Junior/Veselnitskaya meeting as well as Trump and Kushner’s financials including links to Deutsche Bank and Russia while members of Congress push forward legislation that will prevent Trump from being able to fire Mueller without cause.
