Former Maricopa County, Arizona, sheriff Joe Arpaio was finally convicted of federal contempt of a court order last July, but the enjoyment was short-lived when white supremacist leader Donald Trump pardoned the criminal during a hurricane. Very quickly, Arpaio’s lawyers asked that the court toss Arpaio’s conviction, explaining that Donald Trump’s pardon meant that white supremacy was the rule of the day and Arpaio should have his record whitewashed. U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton said she wanted the arguments for tossing out this conviction on the record. As AZ Central writes, the Department of Justice filed their argument today in federal court.
"A pardon issued before entry of final judgment moots a criminal case because the defendant will face no consequences that result from the guilty verdict," the response stated. "Accordingly, the government agrees that the Court should vacate all orders and dismiss the case as moot."
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is trying his darndest to lick the boots of his master, Trump. Maybe he just wants to create the precedent by which he himself can be pardoned, and have his potential convictions thrown out?
