In my diary the other day, too shy for phone banking? . . . . I pledged to write to at least 25 voters through Vote Forward: The Perfect GOTV Activity for Introverts or the House-Bound.
I just finished preparing them and will be doing more. Vote Forward sends addresses, a home address near the addresses (so you and your address are anonymous) and a form letter (with a space to fill in after: “I have pledged to vote in every election, because” I wrote simply: because of “Health Care and Good Jobs.”
According to Vote Forward:
In our first test in Alabama in 2017, voters who received a letter were significantly more likely to vote (3.9 percentage point increase in turnout vs. control group).
It’s easy to get the addresses and letters by signing up for Vote Forward. You can choose which state you want to write to. Note: Don’t send them before October 30 because the closer to the election the better).
You can do it yourself, with friends or even have a Vote Forward party. My daughter is a HS Senior and President of her school’s Young Democrats Club. She had the club do about 20-25 letters and will be mailing them on October 30.
Another option is Postcards for Voters, which has over 20,000+ volunteers in every state (including Alaska and Hawaii) who have written close to 3 million postcards to voters in over 100+ key, close elections.
Give it a try.
