Devils Lake in Lincoln City, Oregon was formed about 14,000 BCE when sand dunes and beach blocked the lower end of the valley drained by the D River. The lake is 1/3 of a mile wide and 3 miles long. The D River, claimed by some to be the world’s shortest river connects the lake to the Pacific Ocean.
Devil’s Lake State Park is the only Oregon coast campground located in the midst of a city. The lake is a center of summertime activity and the ocean beach is only a short walk away.
The Campground
The campground has 28 full-hookup sites, 5 sites with electric and water, 54 tent sites with water, and 10 yurts. Five of the yurts are pet-friendly.
The Trail to D River
D-River, which connects Devils Lake to the Pacific Ocean, is considered by many to be the world’s shortest river. There is a boardwalk from the campground across the marshy fen to the river.
Trail to Devils Lake
None of the camping sites are on the lake, and there is a short paved trail from the campground to the lake. There is a dock at the lake with moorage slips for campers.
Devils Lake
Coots, loons, ducks, herons, cormorants, bald eagles and grebes all call the lake home.
