Pixies are mythological beings who often capture the imaginations of both children and adults. According to the stories, pixies are small beings with pointed ears and butterfly-like wings.
The Pixie Kitchen in Wecoma Beach, Oregon, started in 1948 as Pixie Pat Pies, which was primarily a take-home pie service. However. Peach and berry cobblers could be eaten on the premises. In 1953, the enlarged and redecorated restaurant opened as Pixie Kitchen. It featured dinners of seafood, steak, prime rib, pork chops, and chicken. The landmark restaurant closed in 1983, but the North Lincoln County Museum in Lincoln City has a displayed dedicated to it.
According to the Museum display:
“Special attention was paid to children as customers, with ‘specially trained’ waitresses, children’s portions, place mats that folded into pix hats and gifts of surprise candy gifts.
Attractions such as the Pixie Garden that included wonderful mechanized, moving pixies of all kinds captured the imagination of visitors. The mural in this display is a two dimensional reproduction of the garden as it would have been seen through the windows of the restaurant.”
Pixieland
In 1969, an 1890s Theme Park known as Pixieland opened north of Lincoln City. According to the Museum Display:
“Situated on 57 acres of wooded land that included fresh and salt water canals idea for canoe and boat rides, it seemed destined to become a focal point for tourism on the Oregon Coast. Its frontier theme combined with recreated frontier scenes and exhibits with rides adapted to the old west.”
However, Pixieland failed to attract enough visitors to make it profitable and it closed in 1977. The North Lincoln County Museum includes a display of mementos from Pixieland.
