Kite surfing is a water sport which uses a kind of surf board with is pulled by a wind-catching type of parachute. Dutch inventor Gijsbertus Adrianus Panhuise received the first kite surfing patent in 1977 and is thus considered it originator. In France, Bruno Legaignous and Dominique Legaignous developed kites for kite surfing in the 1980s. By 1999, kite surfing had become a mainstream sport. In Oregon, many kite surfers today use South Beach State Park in Newport.
