Iranian Americans have put out this call for signatures for an open letter to Mike Pompeo who is scheduled to be speaking to the Iranian American community in California tomorrow.
It won’t be much of a surprise. He’s expected to say the following, well telegraphed talking points.
First and foremost, he’s expected to say that Iran is evil, of course. So any thoughts of feeling bad for ordinary Iranians starving or being deprived of medicine should be expunged immediately, as they were with Iraq prior to the 2003 war, and the long decade of sanctions before it.
Funny how Iran, a much smaller, non-nuclear power with no functioning air force that has not started a war in 300 years is a such a “threat”, compared to nuclear Armed-to-the-teeth Russia with an ongoing portfolio of invasions and attacks including the one that put Trump in the White House.
Sanctions are demonstrably hurting people and crippling Iran’s economy but they are a good thing (somehow?). This even though every informed opinion predicts they will have the complete opposite effect: toppling the pro-dialogue moderate government and pushing people in the willing arms of the hardliners while allowing the revolutionary guards to control the underground economy.
But hey they are necessary to punish Iran for the crime of having reached an agreement with the black guy.
Pompeo’s purpose for this meeting is clear: To signal that Trump is ready and willing to go forward with “regime change”, and one of the final pieces of the puzzle is a “native” group of “they will greet us as liberators” stooges to play the “Ahmad Chalabi” role for the American people.
Said stooges will be in the audience tomorrow and it looks like they will include the Islamo-Marxist terror cult: The People’s Mujahedeen (often abbreviated MEK). You know, the same assholes that tried to start a war a few short years ago by fabricating evidence of Iran’s nuclear activities. They were caught redhanded here and exposed elsewhere, but they’re flush with cash and have their people on the inside.
Please read and sign this petition. It will be published in LA Times tomorrow. Here’ the part that crystalizes it for me:
Iran’s only chance to achieve a sustainable democracy that reflects the wishes of its people comes from a process driven by the people of Iran, for the people of Iran. In short, change must come from inside of Iran – not from Washington or anywhere else. It is also crucial to bear in mind that Iranians have a long history with the United States, one that is alive in the memory of even young Iranians, and would compel them to respond to any American destabilisation with wariness and hostility.
However, efforts to bring about the collapse of the Iranian economy through external pressures and sanctions, or a US-sponsored regime change in Iran (in the image of Iraq) will not bring about democracy in Iran but rather destabilize the country and put democracy out of the reach of the Iranian people. That is what it did in Iraq, where after a decade of devastating instability with more than 500,000 dead, Iraq holds elections but is far from a democracy that reflects the hopes and aspirations of its people.
