After an incredibly invigorating campaign launch and many viral debate moments, California Sen. Kamala Harris has dropped out of the race for president as of Tuesday, Dec. 3, as reported by Amanda Terkel at the HuffPost. Edward-Isaac Dovere, a staff writer for The Atlantic, first broke the news on Twitter. NPR reports that, according to staff on the conference call, Harris explained she’s dropping out because she lacks the funds to compete.

During her campaign, Harris released a number of important proposals, covering mental health, reproductive health, health protections for women of color, and better pay for teachers. She called for Congress to act on gun reform. The California Democrat sizzled in debates, including when she evoked Maya Angelou to call out Donald Trump. The moment when she confronted fellow 2020 hopeful and former Vice President Joe Biden over segregation and bussing is one of the more emotional, poignant interactions to come out of the race so far.

Update: Harris has tweeted about suspending her race, including a link to a Medium post about her decision.
