For over a year, Civiqs has released new survey results every day on a wide range of key political issues. By tracking attitudes continually, we've been able to identify and draw attention to some remarkable trends—for example, the improving favorability of Nancy Pelosi, the bottoming out of support for Paul Ryan, and the cumulative impact of mass shootings on support for stricter gun control laws. In total, Civiqs has interviewed thousands of people daily since 2015, all across the United States. You can see more results of Civiqs tracking polls at the top of Daily Kos and in the monthly Daily Kos/Civiqs issues survey that we kicked off earlier in 2019.
Starting Tuesday, Civiqs will be presenting more results than ever before: daily results not only at the national level, but in all 50 states as well. All of these results are fully integrated into Civiqs’s interactive, award-winning results website. Because Civiqs surveys so many Americans every day, our results update more frequently and are more precise than any other survey firm. This is the first time any survey firm has reported daily updated public opinion in all 50 states, with over-time trendlines, and data that can be tabulated by demographic factors to explain the topline trends.
We are beginning with publishing state-level data on President Trump's job approval rating, cannabis legalization, and attitudes toward immigration; we will soon expand to many of the other questions that we track. That means that Civiqs can now tell you not only where President Trump gets his strongest support (it's Wyoming), but also how strongly he's supported in key swing states like Ohio (50 percent approve), Florida (47 percent approve), or Pennsylvania (45 percent approve) and how support in those states has trended over time.
Just as with Civiqs's national results, all of the state-level results can be filtered and tabulated by demographic and political characteristics including age, race, gender, education, and party identification. We are excited to be unique in offering this high level of data granularity. With a click in the Civiqs results dashboard, you can see Trump's job approval among Independents in all 50 states; or white Independents; or white Independent men versus women, and so forth. For each of these groups, in each state, you can also see how attitudes have changed since Trump took office. It is an enormous amount of data, with many insights to be uncovered.
The Civiqs survey research methodology is an all-online sample drawn from Civiqs's large, nationally representative survey panel. Many Civiqs research questions have hundreds of thousands of responses over multiple years. We analyze all of these responses using a powerful statistical modeling technique that is designed to produce accurate results in small subgroups, known as multilevel regression with poststratification. Civiqs adds a dynamic element to these models, making it possible to detect even subtle changes over time in public opinion—not only at the national or state level, but within the key groups and population segments that are driving the change.
As the Director of Civiqs, I invite you to explore the latest addition to our survey results. Use it for research, to debate political strategy, or simply to satisfy your own curiosity. For disclosure, Civiqs is a division of Kos Media, separate from Daily Kos, with its own team but under the same corporate umbrella.
If you would like to join the Civiqs research panel to answer future surveys, go to https://civiqs.com/join-in. Most surveys take less than a minute, and you will only receive emails about once every few weeks when a new poll is ready.
