Netroots Nation always has an app available to give the most up-to-date agenda, room info, maps, and ways to let us build connections between attendees. There’s usually a social wall too, and while fun at the time, usually as soon as I get home I forget about that feed. This time, one post stuck with me. Grab your beverage of choice and follow me across the Top Comments info so I can share!
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
For a number of years, Netroots Nation went through something of an identity crisis, with the Daily Kos folks who’ve been attending since 2006 feeling less at home in the sea of Professional Left attendees who asked “who are you with” before they decided if you were going to be a ‘worthwhile’ contact. Now to be crystal clear, I have ALWAYS felt at home at NN and never let amateur vs professional get to me, but I know it does for some.
This year’s NN19 app had one thing I did NOT love. To sign in you needed to give your name (that wasn’t a problem), your city (that wasn’t a problem, either) and your title/company — THAT was the problem. It would NOT let you move on until you gave a company or title. I don’t have a company, or someone who sent me to NN19 in a professional context. And while some folks do, I don’t feel right listing Daily Kos as my company because while y’all are my community, just like #$%^ing Soros Kos doesn’t pay me.
After a bit of thinking I put down “Activist” as my title, then promptly forgot about what I chose to identify as until the drive home, when I was scrolling through the social feed seeing everyone’s posts. I saw one that made me so happy I’m thinking about it a week later! Identifying info redacted, it said:
NAME REDACTED
Concerned Citizen & Engaged Voter
I’m not with any organization. Thank you for showing a warehouse worker I can make a difference.
First, to everyone who makes Netroots Nation a reality each year- I cannot think of a better testimonial to the power of our time together each summer than that simple statement. Isn’t that what we ALL want to do, make a difference? Far too often we think we must be Someone In A Position Of Importance to do so, when what it comes down to is each of us, in our own way. Warehouse worker, CEO, student, teacher, non-wage earners by choice, involuntarily, or by retirement — we ALL can and do make a difference in our civic spaces and in our world.
Second, look at what this individual chose as their title: Concerned Citizen & Engaged Voter. That’s what in an ideal world EVERYONE should be. It doesn’t matter what nonprofit you work for, if you manage a campaign, are running for election, etc. Concerned Citizen and Engaged Voter.
Let me say it again, louder:
I can make a difference
Concerned Citizen & Engaged Voter
You make a difference by being here at Daily Kos and in our Top Comments community, by reading, reccing, commenting and nominating the best of what you see. BeninSC, one of the nicest folks you will ever have the pleasure of meeting either at Netroots or anywhere else, has once again made my evening by collaborating with me to bring you tonight’s Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
Note: Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? Contact brillig.

I am submitting this comment by A7sam, because it highlights an off-site comment by Hannah Jane Parkinson, about the goings-on in Britain.
Highlighted by 2thanks:
Is this comment by NXNW, doing nothing more than demanding that a commenter back up the ridiculous contention that Elizabeth Warren’s trade policies are as bad as his are. (Of course, the commenter couldn’t manage that.)
Highlighted by Debra Rowley:
Is this comment insult of Individual Less than One, by skillet.
Highlighted by TrueBlueMajority:
Is yet another deserved comment insult of Indiv.<1, this time by Argyle Gargoyle!
Highlighted by Grey Beard:
Is this comment by Captain Frogbert on the role of double standards in right-wing apologetics for right-wing terrorism.
