On August 3, SuperPAC VA 7th for Progress called on Daily Kos readers to support Ann Ridgeway, the wonderful first-time Democratic candidate challenging Nick “Deadlines-Are-For-Suckers” Freitas (update on the saga here).

And boy did you respond! We had hoped to present Ann with $500: $250 from DK readers and $250 from us — and you wowed us with $790!! The photo shows Cheryl Ware, Assistant to the Treasurer of VA 7th for Progress, presenting Ann with a check for $1040. And yes, we know we need a big sign that looks like a check for photos, but in the meanwhile, we want to say THANK YOU Daily Kos readers!
Ann has a compelling story that makes it easy to write about her (SemDem delves into it with typical thoroughness), and she’s even better in person. Cheryl was delighted by her:

She shared her reasons for running, anecdotes about meeting all the wonderful folks in the beautiful district and her hopes for making a difference. Ann, the daughter of an Episcopal priest is grounded in her faith and her community and is committed to being a voice for good in the General Assembly. Her authenticity has allowed her to reach out to all sorts of voters, including lifelong Republicans who are tired of the lack of action on a variety of issues in Virginia's General Assembly. Of course, $1040 goes only so far, and Ann’s opponent is revving up to launch a write-in campaign. The battle is hardly won, but Ann has got a fighting chance. It’s not too late to help her out. We need her courageous voice in the General Assembly: seldom do we get a candidate from a rural area willing to stick her neck out on gun violence prevention the way she does HERE.
