The Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) in Hood River, Oregon, has on display more than 100 antique airplanes. Shown below are some of the Aeronca airplanes which are on display. From 1928 to 1951, Aeronca in Middletown, Ohio, was a major producer of general aviation aircraft. The drip pans under most of the planes indicate that this is a functioning aircraft.
1931 Aeronca C2
The C2, introduced in 1929, is often called the “Flying Bathtub.” A total of 164 if these airplanes were built.
1931 Aeronca C3 on EDO Floats
This airplane has a cruising speed of 63 MPH and a top speed of 78 MPH. More than 400 of these airplanes were built. The engine is a 36 horsepower Aeronca E-113. The floats are EDO D-1070 floats.
1932 Aeronca C3
1937 Aeronca LC
This airplane has a cruising speed of 108 MPH and a top speed of 123 MPH. A total of 25 of these airplanes were built. The engine is a 90 horsepower Warner Scarab Jr.
1938 Aeronca KCA
This airplane has a cruising speed of 90 MPH and a top speed of 100 MPH. A total of 62 of these airplanes were built. The engine is a 50 horsepower Continental A-50.
1941 Aeronca 65-TAL Defender
This airplane has a cruising speed of 87 MPH and a top speed of 95 MPH. More than 500 of these airplanes were built. The engine is a 65 horsepower Lycoming O-1 45.
1942 Aeronca L-3B Grasshopper
This airplane has a cruising speed of 79 MPH and a top speed of 88 MPH. More than 2,000 of these airplanes were built. The engine is a 65 horsepower Continental A-65.
