The Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) in Hood River, Oregon, has on display more than 100 antique airplanes. Shown below are some of the Piper airplanes which are on display. The drip pans under most of the planes indicate that this is a functioning aircraft.
The history of Pipe airplanes begins in 1928 when William T. Piper, an oil industry engineer, invested $400 in Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation in order to get them to move from Rochester, New York, to Bradford, Pennsylvania. In 1930, the company file for bankruptcy and Piper purchased the assets for $761. In 1937, the company was renamed Piper Aircraft Corporation. Today Piper is one of the “Big Three” in general aviation manufacturing (these other two are Cessna and Beechcraft). Since 2009 Piper has been owned by the Government of Brunei.
