I found this article by Dustin Rowles about Biden bringing progressive policies more easily than Sanders or Warren.
Now Dustin and I disagree about a lot — for example, I like Biden much more than he does. 😆 But we agree about a few things. First:
here’s what I’ll say about Joe Biden: He doesn’t move the party. The party moves him. During these times, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
I I love that about Joe. He listens to what people around him say and he grows from it. You often hear that people become more conservative as they age but I am convinced that is only true for close minded, selfish, or dumb people. The best people get more liberal as they age because they are willing to learn from the new generations and new friends who were born into different worlds and thus see things differently.
Biden is one of those people and I love him for it.
Why do we need someone other than a Warren or Sanders to get progressive policies put forward?
Because people who actually are on the far left scare a lot of people in the middle and right. And that makes it harder to get things done. You know who doesn’t scare people AND who knows how to get shit done? Joe Biden
Quietly, Biden’s policies have also moved to the left, as the Sanders’ people get in there and help him to shape healthcare policy; the Warren people help him shape economic policy; and even AOC and her people, as well as Jay Inslee, are helping Biden out on the environment....
Don’t tell Trump, but Bernie Sanders says himself that that the compromise his people and Biden’s people came up with, “if implemented, will make Biden the most progressive president since FDR.” With Biden in the White House, he may ironically end up better suited than Warren or Sanders to push through those policies, because even if they were radical policies, with Biden as their public face, no one would believe it….
but because of his reputation for being insanely moderate, he can also probably get a lot of these more progressive policies by the moderate wing of the party without dividing them and without setting off the Republicans (how ever many are left after November).
These are smart policies we need — like saving the planet and putting people over giant corporations. Just the kinds of changes that Biden will be able to make
Joe Biden will be a great president.
